The Bible teaches that as believers, you and I are to occupy until Jesus comes (Luke 19:13). Occupy is a military term meaning to: hold possession, or control, of conquered troops and territory. If we’re to do that effectively, most of us are going to have to change our attitudes and approach on how we use our time every day.

When Jesus departed, He left us with His authority to take possession of what the enemy is trying to control. His assignment, as described in Luke 4:18-19, has been passed to us–His followers. We are to carry on His work, doing what He was doing while on earth. “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”

You may ask, “Well, how do we do that?”  Look at another scripture found in Ephesians 6:13-17 where we receive “how to” instruction. “Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;  praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—”  Ephesians 6:13-17

This isn’t just a nice scripture… it is our assignment. If you don’t understand it, then start pressing in by reading it daily and asking God to give you understanding. Meditate on it and pursue understanding, then start taking action to implement it through your life.

If that just seems too difficult… or like I’m asking too much… then may I humbly ask you, “Are you really one of the faithful who will endure to the end?” Because that’s what Jesus requires of those who will be worthy of making Heaven their home.

Recognize that Jesus has already won the victory. Satan was already defeated at Calvary. We’re not on the defensive—he is! We’re the mop up crew.

What’s more, Jesus has given you His very own armor and sword to use to keep that defeated devil in line. You may be a 90-pound weakling on your own, but if you’ll put on God’s armor, the devil will never know it. He’ll run from you just like you were Jesus.

Think about it. What would you do if you were the devil and you came face to face with some person wearing God’s armor and God’s helmet with God’s weapons in each hand? As long as that person only spoke God’s words, you would think that must be God inside there!

Don’t neglect any of the armor you’ve been given. Wear it all. Keep the devil on the defensive—and occupy till Jesus comes!
