1 Thessalonians 5:1-4 describes this: “But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. (Paul writes about this lack of need, because it was preached thoroughly to the church already.) For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. (The Day of the Lord is both the sixth and seventh seal and begins with the rapture, immediately followed by the wrath of God being poured out.) For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief.” Notice the difference between the outcomes based upon whether we walk in darkness or the light of knowledge of truth?

A parallel account of Matthew 24 is found in more detail in the last book of the New Testament—The Book of Revelation. Although authored by John, this revelation, is the revelation of Jesus Christ, not John, as many think. John was simply the instrument used to write the account. The information and warnings laid out in the Book of Revelation are about Jesus Christ, as stated by Jesus Himself in the first line of the first chapter. “The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants—things which must shortly take place. And He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John, who bore witness to the word of God, and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, to all things that he saw” Revelation 1:1-2.

With that foundation, let’s look further at the first half of the last 7 years. Jesus called these critical years the “beginning of birth pangs.” In addition, the first 3 1/2  years are referred to as the beginning of Sorrows, giving us a sense of what’s ahead for the world. “For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows” Matthew 24:7-8.

The Antichrist will originally come as a peacemaker who will give hope to many. He will accomplish what no one else has. His leadership will be intoxicating, with many signs and wonders occurring through his power, as well as the superficial peace that he has brought to a turbulent world. But, just after the midpoint, the Great Tribulation will begin and unspeakable evil will be brought down upon the earth.

In the middle of these final seven years, Antichrist will have moved to Jerusalem and established himself in the new temple. Desecrating it so profoundly, that he exposes himself to Israel as to who he really is—the Antichrist. At this point he will demand the worship of the entire world. (There is little doubt that the Antichrist is alive today and getting ready to take his position incognito, initially as the peacemaker).

At this critical midpoint, the wrath of Antichrist against any and all who do not worship him is unleashed in full force. This shocking event in the temple begins the second half of the 7 years, as the wrath of Antichrist is poured out against Israel and the saints of God. In Revelation 13:5-7 we read: “And he was given a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and he was given authority to continue for forty-two months (3 1/2 years). Then he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme His name, His tabernacle, and those who dwell in heaven. It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them. And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation.”

The Bible reveals that Antichrist will require every man, woman and child take his number on either the right hand or on the forehead as a form of allegiance to him and his kingdom. “He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name” Revelation 13:16-17. This mark also will represent the number 666 in some form, which represents his name. “Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666.” Revelation 13:18.

We learn that taking this Mark of the Beast, destines the recipient to permanent and eternal punishment. “Then a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead or on his hand, he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation. He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb” Revelation 14:9-10.

In essence, each person alive will be mandated to take this Mark of the Beast on their body or they will be put to death. Yet God tells us, “And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell” Matthew 10:28.

Soon after the midpoint, resistance will have almost ceased. Largely because no one who remains within society will be allowed to function without The Mark. The Bible tells us that the whole world bows down and worships this man of unsurpassed power and authority—this man who is the Antichrist. If anyone refuses to take his Mark and refuses to denounce their faith in Jesus, if they are captured, will face physical death. “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death” Revelation 12:11.

Let’s now return to looking at the first three and a half years. This final 7 years launches with a world leader posing as a savior of sorts when he rises up with a coalition of several nations and declares protection for Israel.

This fake Messiah will appear to have the solution to all the world’s chaos and does indeed bring peace and safety during a turbulent and troublesome time.

It is a different story for those who are walking in the light—those who recognize the times prophesied in scripture. In First Thessalonians 5, we find warnings for the faithful to be vigilant and alert, discerning the signs.

As a footnote… much of what I write about concerning the last days of planet earth are things you’ve not heard before. Why? I believer there are two primary reasons.
1) Zionism has overwhelmed the Christian Church. I’m not a Zionist. However, I used to be, unknowingly, until I learned of its deception. Once I learned, I repented and abandoned it forever.  (At some point, I’ll write more about what Zionism really is, but that is not the scope of this article).
2) I come from a professional teaching background in the field of aviation. I do not come from the corporate Christian Church. Nor have I ever been a professional pastor. I am a servant of God, and as such, a seeker of truth, not religion.

That’s all for this article. Do remember that God provides divine protection for the faithful–those who have made Jesus Lord as well as Savior. Revelation chapter 7 describes multitudes of believers who survive the last days and are present to be raptured when Jesus returns to rescue His faithful church (just before the wrath of God is poured out on the unbelievers). This scripture gives us assurance that many will be able to hide from the Antichrist and survive the horrors that the world will experience under his evil rule. (See verse 14).
