We were warned by Jesus in Matthew 24 that deception tops the list of things to beware of in the final days. Jesus said, “Take heed that you are not deceived.” Matthew 24:4.

In addition, we were instructed not to give in to fear. “Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10.

Today, masquerading as President, Biden spoke to the U.S. and the world. Much of the news you are hearing regarding Russia and Ukraine, is manufactured and deceptive, and not real.

In 2 Timothy 3:1, Paul says to Timothy… “Know this,” He’s making it clear that what he’s about to say is very important. Pay attention. Here’s he’s emphasizing. “…That in the last days, perilous times will come!”

The word that’s translated “perilous” only occurs in one other place in the Greek New Testament. It is used to describe two demon-possessed men who came to meet Jesus on the east shore of the Sea of Galilee. In that scripture, the same Greek word is translated “fierce!” It says these demons were exceedingly fierce. So what the scripture is telling us… is that in the last days, fierce times will come. That may be a much clearer translation than perilous.

Paul goes on in that chapter to give the reason for these fierce or perilous times. The reason is the deterioration of human character, ethics, and morals. He goes on to list 18 moral blemishes that will be conspicuous in the last days.

Three of them are things that people love. The first is lovers of self. The second is, lovers of money. And the third and last one is, lovers of pleasure, more than lovers of God. And with unerring accuracy Scripture pinpoints the great basic problem that faces humanity. The one that is the root of these three–the love of self.

Self-love is the cause of the breakup of marriages, the destruction of families, churches, and society in general. The attitude is: “This is what I want. I don’t care what you want. This is the way I’m going. You can go your way, but I’ll go my way. I know what I want and I’m going to get it.” That attitude is the primary culprit for the breakup of the family. And the breakup of the family means the breakup of society—because the family is the fabric that holds society together. So self-love, or selfishness, is really the end of all structured order in society.

There’s another place where scripture warns us about what will happen in the last days. It’s in Matthew 24:7-13. Here Jesus is speaking about the “birth pangs” or the “labor pains” that will take place in the kingdom of God on earth.

One truth about the kingdom of God is… there’s only one way into it. You cannot join it–you have to be born into it. Jesus said, unless a man is born-again he can neither see, nor enter, the kingdom of God. And you may find this interesting–this is true not only for the individual… but it’s also true of the earth. The earth can only enter into the kingdom of God through the birth process described in Romans 8:22. “For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now.”

Jesus calls it the regeneration. And like every birth, it is preceded by birth pangs—labor pains. Let’s look at Matthew 24:7-13.”For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.”

So can you see how these events will affect both people and the planet? We are hearing more about increased violence and ruthless chaos. Increased frequency and intensity of earthquakes. And volcano’s, hurricanes and other natural phenomena. This is describing both people and the earth.

But in spite of all that is occurring in the earth, and in spite of what the Bible describes happening as we approach the final days of the church age, we are not to fear but to look forward to the ever-nearer return of Jesus Christ for His own.

“Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:8.

And remember, with God nothing is impossible!
