“Do you want to be made well?” I believe Jesus is asking this same question to many of His followers today. How each of us answers this question is vital. There are always obstacles blocking us from experiencing God’s will in our lives. Are we focusing on the obstacles or on what God has already provided? The story is recorded in John 5:1-15. “When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, “Do you want to be made well?” The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.” John 5:6-7 NKJV
This man was very cognizant of the obstacles that were preventing his healing. The apostle Paul handled his many obstacles differently. If you’ll remember, Paul had more obstacles blocking God’s will in his life than almost anyone else. In fact, let’s look at an example from Paul’s life.
The envious men from Antioch and Iconium brought persecution against Paul. But they were only instruments used by the source of the persecution, which was the messenger of Satan. Wherever Paul went, the evil spirit worked to incite the people against him. This evil spirit—this messenger from Satan—was the thorn in Paul’s side.
We find in Numbers 33:55, where the Lord told Moses that if the Israelites did not drive out the inhabitants of the land of Canaan, those inhabitants would be irritants in their eyes, thorns in their sides and be a continuing trouble to them. Well, in like manner, Paul describes this evil angel as a thorn in his side. But Paul overcame this thorn.
In 2 Corinthians 12:7, Paul says, “There was given me a thorn in the flesh,” (and then Paul tells us what that thorn in the flesh was) “Satan’s Angel to deal blows at me.” Here we learn that an evil spirit was assigned to Paul in order to stop the word from being preached. Paul had received an abundance of revelation, wouldn’t you agree? And Satan came to snatch the word away and stop Paul from the ministry God had called him to.
Mark 4:15 teaches us about the principle of what happens when God’s word is planted. It says, “And these are the ones by the wayside where the word is sown. When they hear, Satan comes immediately and takes away the word that was sown in their hearts.”
God had given Paul authority over Satan, in the name of Jesus. And you and I have the same power that Paul had to enforce that authority… the name of Jesus. We do this by directly commanding the evil spirit to depart and we resist that persecuting spirit steadfastly. James 4:7 reminds us, “Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”
Going back to the scripture about Paul’s thorn in the flesh, it says, “For this thing I besought the Lord three times, that it might depart from me.” If you want results, don’t ask God to deal with the devil for you. Just as God told Moses to drive out the inhabitants of the land, and just as Jesus spoke to the wind and the waves directly when He was in the boat and the disciples were afraid, He instructs you and me to drive out the demons or the evil spirits from the affairs of your life–in His name. Look at Mark 16:17. “In My name they will cast out demons…” Also we find in James 4:7, stating it again because of this scripture’s importance, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”
If I sound a little passionate about this subject, it’s NOT because it is taught in seminary. And I didn’t get this from another preacher. This comes from the Word of God, the Spirit of God AND I have found this to be true in my own life. It just plain works. If you are sick and want to be well don’t wait around expecting God to ‘zap’ you. Pray and expect God to heal and in the meantime do whatever you need to do … because God truly DOES want you well. Blend the practical with the miraculous. Add the natural to the supernatural. He has already done all that He needs to do for you to experience healing. But you have to fight for it.

I still appreciate everything you and Paula do. It is very clear that you are both truly blessed by God.
I communicated with you about 1 – 2 years ago. I had a traumatic brain injury 41/2 years ago which was all my fault. I have no memory at all of what really happened but I was out a bar/ restaurant by myself (and drinking). At some point my head must have been hit really hard and I ended in an ambulance and was taken to a hospital for a craniotomy to keep me alive. I have made a huge recovery and almost back to 100%. But the last 5-10% seems almost impossible. Constantly feeling disoriented and having problems with perceptions and timing is probably the best way to say it. I have seen some really good neuro physiologists and neuro Chiropractors who seem to know exactly what they’re doing. Anyway, nothing seems to work.
I feel lost, both physically, mentally, and spiritually. It’s very encouraging to hear all the testimonies on the internet (including yours) from people who have had severe injuries and have been healed. But that hasn’t happened to me. All of these testimonies are from people who had real accidents that we’re no faults of there own. In my case, it was my own stupidity that got me into this situation. That, in itself, gives me very little hope. In fact, what really bothers me the most isn’t the healing, but many of the other things mentioned in the Bible that describes what God and spirit will provide. Joy, peace, strength, lifting up, comfort, guidance, wisdom, and there are many, many others. Mostly in the New Testament but also allot in the Spalms and Isaiah. I do not sense any of these things and the sadness and reqret I feel every day is beyond belief.
My actual faith has never changed. But where I actually stand with God, gives me allot of concern. Yes I appreciate your prayers, but I have pretty much given up and have very little if any hope.
Dear Brother Kenneth, Thank you for your email. We are praying for you and I’ve sent this to Capt Dale and Paula to pray for you. First of all, my brother, if you have asked God’s forgiveness, then you have to know He’s forgiven you! Your sin and my sin is the same! We have missed the mark, that’s why Jesus came to this earth…What satan meant for evil, God will turn it around for good, as you put your trust in Him and not look at your self…He loves you Kenneth and has not forsaken you. Trials are to make us stronger and more dependent on Him…Trust in the Lord, with all your heart, and lean not to your own understanding, but in all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5,6 Satan wants you to give up! Take authority, in the name of Jesus and resist the devil and he will flea from you. We are praying for you.-LR PRAYER COORDINATOR
