Do you realize there’s power in the name of Jesus? Do you use the name of Jesus when you pray? If you want to see your prayers answered, ask in agreement with God’s will. Using the name of Jesus adds strength and effectiveness to your prayers… and gets results. “And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” John 14:13 (NKJV).

We are taught in scripture that when we approach God, we are to do that through Jesus, who is our advocate. In order to boldly approach God, we must come to Him under the blood of Jesus, which makes us acceptable to God… and in the name of Jesus, which gives us authority.

We must approach God with humility… but also with authority. At first this may sound confusing, but Jesus taught us to pray just this way. The truth is that Jesus’ name has unparalleled authority and power, yet you and I (and every other Believer) can, and should, pray with that precious authority, which has power in it to change things. God has not only made this wonderful benefit available to us, but He has given us a mandate to use His name and use His power in our daily lives so that we can reflect His will in our life and in the earth. Remember John 14:13.

First, realize that Jesus inherited His name from Almighty God. That means it’s God’s own Name. It’s the Name that in the Old Testament is translated LORD (as in Proverbs 18:10, “The name of the LORD is a strong tower”). It’s the Name that was considered by the Israelite’s to be so powerful and holy that they reverenced it too much to say it and eventually the proper pronunciation was lost.

This is the most wonderful, awesome and powerful Name that exists, and Jesus obtained it by inheritance. Look at this Scripture, “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name: that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth” (Philippians 2:9-10).

Consider this for a moment! The Name “Jesus” was inherited. It’s the Name God gave Him after His ascension to the throne of grace, is God’s own divine Name. Therefore, the only way to measure its greatness and its wonders is by measuring the power of God Himself, and that can’t be done.

God’s power is immeasurable, don’t you agree? And every bit of that power is in His Name! This is the reason the Church is referred to in Scripture as the bride of Christ. We are in a love contract with Him in holy matrimony before God Almighty and, just as a bride takes the name of her husband in an earthly marriage, we’ve been given Jesus’ Name.

Most Christians haven’t grasped this fully. They might understand that they’ve been authorized to use Jesus’ Name at certain times to do the work of God. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. “Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:9-11 (NKJV).

It’s important to pray in Jesus’ name and to understand the power and authority available to us when we do. It’s like putting on another person’s armor. Look at Ephesians 6:10-11. “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” Learn more about the armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18).

God’s armor may feel like it’s too big for you at first. You may be aware that you have some growing to do spiritually before you fill it out. But I encourage you to put it on and grow into it. When we are hidden within the armor of God, only then are we equipped to fight Satan and his hordes. Because only when we are clothed in the armor of God does Satan see God instead of us.

You bear the Name of the One who literally conquered Satan in combat. You and I bear the Name of the One who destroyed him and stripped him of his authority. When you use the authority you have been given, Satan will be terrified of you. I’m not exaggerating. It’s no wonder he flees when you resist him! “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” James 4:7. This scripture is a perfect example of humility and authority.

No matter what you encounter this week, have faith in the name of Jesus. Use His name respectfully and use His power aggressively to overcome the circumstances you face. Take your place, as a warrior in His armor and use His strength and His name to overcome every obstacle.

As we march onto the month of June 2019, do use Jesus’ name when you pray. Use His name with humility, but also use it with authority. And remember with God nothing is impossible!
