Take authority, dear friends. The Bible says, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” James 4:7.

One of the sad and more frustrating things people continually ask Christian leaders to do, is to pray that the devil will leave them alone. Equally troubling is when a Christian prays to the Lord and asks Him to deal with the devil for them.

Let me encourage you NOT to be one of those people–for your own good. Jesus clearly taught, that as children of God, you and I are the ones to take authority over Satan for ourselves. We are charged to run him out of our life and our situations. We are taught to put Satan under our feet. Jesus has given us authority…and He has given us the task to “resist the devil.”

When Jesus was asleep in the boat crossing the sea of Galilee with His disciples… remember the story? The wind blew and the waves tossed the boat. And the disciples were afraid. They were so afraid that they woke up Jesus, hoping He would save them. And what did Jesus do? He stood up and spoke to the wind and the waves and said, “…be still.” He didn’t ask God to calm the storm. Jesus took authority. He took action. He was our example. And that’s what you are to do with the challenge that you’re facing.

How do you overcome the lies of the devil? How do you overcome thoughts of depression and discouragement? You resist. Rebel against Satan’s lies. Work with God, but take action.Take appropriate action.

When Satan tempts you to do something that’s out of line with God’s ways and word, don’t give in… resist him. Push Satan out by speaking what is true and what is in line with God’s will. When Satan tells you a lie, contradict him with God’s truth. You must oppose him. As Christians, keep mindful that we live every day on a spiritual battlefield. This is a war zone. To have victory you must fight. Remember your weapons are superior to anything Satan has–but you must use them. So take action and resist the enemy.

Satan will try anything he can to keep you and your business and your family from victory. But don’t forget James 4:7. If you resist the devil he will flee from you. But resist with force. Don’t just whine and slouch and speak halfhearted at him. Stand up. Speak up. Really, truly, resist him.

So everywhere you go this week, we encourage you to walk with faith in God’s word. Oppose the devil. Push back the darkness by turning on the light. Keep the light of God’s word shining bright in your heart, in your mind, and in your mouth. You can do it.

If you are a child of God, than the life of the Creator of the universe is within you already. The Spirit of God is living inside of you. He’s given you His word to guide you. And given you His Spirit to empower and equip you. Everywhere you go God goes with you. Every problem that comes against you, is coming against God’s own. If God is for us, who can be against us? Resist the devil and he will flee. No one else can do this for you. God has given each of us that responsibility and authority over our own lives.

When Satan comes against you–he is limited only by your authority, so use it! Begin today living a life moment by moment, knowing that the light of God is in you already. Keep God’s word at the forefront of your heart and mind. You can do it! With God nothing is impossible.
