Several times a week I’m privileged to be able to walk (on my miracle ankle) while I pray to my Lord and Savior. My favorite walk these days is with my trusted Border Collie, Sweet Pea, on a one mile trek up a hill to the foot of a cross a short distance from my home. Someone built and maintains a 30-foot wide, 50-foot tall lighted cross to shine for thousands to see, day and night. I was again blessed to talk with God while I walked up and touched that cross this morning… and yesterday… and hopefully will again tomorrow. A few months ago while standing next to the cross and thinking about its meaning, I felt like new understanding was imparted to my heart. Let me review a few things we know about the cross of Jesus Christ.
All of Mankind needs a Savior.
Most of the people I talk to think of the cross as a symbol of Christianity. For others it is a symbol of Jesus and the crucifixion. But for me, it has more meaning than that. First, the cross is a symbol to all of humanity, that mankind is in need of a Savior. we are unable to approach a Holy God without the saving grace of His Son, our Savior.
Jesus Is Savior AND Lord
When I see the Cross, any Cross, I again declare that Jesus is my Savior. But He is also Lord. When I see any cross, I pause and take time to reflect… about His Lordship in my life. This is a choice I’m able to make. And when I see or touch the cross, I declare His Lordship over my life and desires and affairs.
The purpose of this blog is to help you take advantage of the fullness of salvation—deliverance, victory, provision, healing and wholeness—that Jesus died to give you and me. Maximize and personalize the benefits of the sacrifice of our Lord by following the biblical pattern set forth in the tenth chapter of the book of Romans.
- First of all, if you have asked God to forgive you of sin, if you have asked Jesus to come into your life, then you can believe in your heart that Jesus has given you His righteousness. Believe that God now sees you every bit as acceptable and holy as He sees Jesus. Because He now looks at you through the blood of Jesus which cleanses us from all unrighteousness.
- Secondly, speak the words out loud that you are saved, redeemed—thanks to what Jesus did on the cross. Thank God for the salvation that you have in Jesus. Look at Mark 11:24, “Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.” So when you speak words of thankfulness (or of repentance, if that is what you need to do), then believe you receive it the moment you ask for it.
Be aware that your salvation doesn’t end with making the confession that Jesus is your Savior. The Bible says the person who, “…does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says” (Mark 11:23). Whenever you have a specific need, with a little diligence you can find the scripture that pertains to your situation (either specifically or in principle), and then apply that Word to your life.
Based on Colossians 1:13, you can have assurance in what Jesus did to overcome sin forever. “I have been delivered from the power of darkness and have been translated into the kingdom of God’s dear Son. I am free from the power of the devil and free from the power of sin.”
According to 2 Corinthians 5:17, you can declare, “I am in Christ and have become a new person. Old things have passed away and I perceive clearly that all things have become new.”
Why not start today to talk out loud to God and even to yourself about your salvation, your healing, your wholeness, deliverance, and victory in Jesus. This can help you enjoy walking in the fullness of the aspects of salvation He has already provided for you. Salvation is more than being forgiven of sin. It is becoming a child of God with all the benefits of God’s family available to you.
