In the midst of today’s global calamity… in fact, because of it… believers in Jesus all over the world are finally waking up. The family of God is realizing that the Church is not a building or social event. The ‘Church’ of the Lord Jesus is eternal and cannot be contained within the walls of any physical structure.

Who is this Church? The Church is: you, me, and anyone who has placed their trust in the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior. Regardless of what happens next, We are the Church and Jesus told us that the gates of hell will not prevail over us.

Your heart is the prize
As real as this COVID-19 is… as tragic and as horrible as the destruction is to individuals and families, there is more to this crisis than meets the eye and more than most recognize. We must look beyond news headlines and the circumstances of this natural world for understanding. It is war–a time of spiritual battle. There is a global war raging–good vs evil. And you are in the middle of the battleground. Your heart is the sought-after prize. We, the Church, must stand together and stand strong.

You have probably heard President Trump say several times in March, “We are at war with an invisible enemy.” Was he referring only to COVID-19 or something more? Is there double meaning in many of his tweets and briefings? Are there codes going on daily that all can see and hear but only a few understand? Yes, there is! And thankfully many believers are waking up to the battle and learning enemy tactics!

Now here is a question that I ask you to think about, ponder and pray about. Who is our real enemy? Of course, Satan is our spiritual enemy and is at the root of all evil. Of course, his goal according to scripture is to steal, kill and destroy. But who is he using? Christians are tuned into and familiar with who God uses for His will on earth. What about Satan? Who is the devil using? How is Satan accomplishing these evil goals on earth? Who are the agents of this enemy?

Imagine training and equipping military soldiers and giving them overwhelming superiority in weapons and numerical advantage. Imagine telling them that if they fight with all their might they will prevail over the enemy and win their fight. Then imagine sending them out into battle without telling them who their enemy is. That’s crazy, right? Yet, this is exactly what has been happening in most churches all over the globe for decades. Believers until now have not been prepared to recognize their enemy. And sadly, many are still not prepared for the battle… or know how to use the weapons God has provided to them for this current fight.

In the past, several times a demon possessed person entered a meeting where I was preaching or attending. Spiritual warfare prayers were standing-by, ready to be used against the evil spirit who was possessing that person. It was not Satan himself who was the enemy in that meeting, but Satan’s agent who I needed to confront and resist and take authority over. It was vital that I was prepared in advance. It was paramount that I knew several things: who the enemy of God was, who Satan chose to use as his agent, and how to apply God’s power in the situation.

Jesus said, “…be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.” Jesus taught us how to identify the enemy and how to pray offensively and take authority over any situation. Consider when He spoke to the demon possessed man and cast the demons into a heard of pigs. Jesus knew His enemy and also the agent. And He spoke directly to the enemy agents. Do you know how to recognize your enemy and his agents?

Understand your enemy lest you become the prey.
The Coronavirus is not our enemy. The virus is vicious and terrible but it is a weapon of the enemy. Who is the enemy? Most would never believe it even if told. I suggest you ask God to reveal to you who your enemy really is. Of course, it is Satan in the spiritual realm. But I encourage all to also recognize the practical side too and deal with Satan’s agents just as Jesus Himself did. Know that Satan is using demonic spirits, who manifest themselves through evil and corrupt people who are invisibly standing neatly dressed in front of us all. We must use the “weapons of our warfare to pray against the schemes of the devil and pull down his attacks through the power of God in our prayers. 

Ephesians 6:11-12, say, “Put on the full armor of God, that you may be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

If at this critical time in history, the Church will do what Jesus taught us to do, we will see victory. We will see revival. We will see many lost people come to the personal knowledge of Jesus Christ as Savior. And we will become stronger because we have chosen to take our place on the front lines of this battle. It is most often in tribulation that we are shaken out of our comfortable and complacent lifestyle to move into a battle stance.

Stay close to Him in these difficult days. Trust Him. Step up to the front lines. We cannot afford to continue with the status quo. In all the difficult circumstances you face, “walk in His glorious might.” And if we who are believers will pray, and put our faith into action by standing up to vote and speak up for good and be the salt of the earth, in time this current evil will go away and be replaced with awesome days ahead. I truly and sincerely believe and expect this to occur. Remember, regardless of what happens next, WE are the Church. Stand strong. Stand together. Stand expectant because Jesus told us the gates of hell will not prevail against us.
