“Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” – Matthew 5:11-12 NKJV
When persecution comes your way, you won’t benefit by sitting around complaining about it. And by all means, don’t waste valuable time feeling sorry for yourself—that’s a trap the devil is just hoping you’ll fall into. Persecution has not come to you because Satan enjoys picking on you, but you’ve become a threat to him – that’s why. It has likely come because you’ve put the promises of God in your heart. Satan knows that if he doesn’t stop you, you’ll cause him more trouble than he’s able to withstand.
The Bible tells us in Mark 4:17 that “Afterward, when tribulation or persecution arises for the word’s sake, immediately they stumble.” Putting God’s word in your heart and then speaking and acting in agreement with it… is the most dangerous thing for the enemy. When persecution comes… don’t stumble and let go. Grab on harder and use it as your weapon to overcome. Satan is not as strong as God’s Word in a believer’s heart and mouth who won’t quit.
When persecution shows up in your life, what do you do? Rejoice. Yes. Take joy in it because strong persecution means you’ve made it to the majors. It means the devil is taking you so seriously that he’s resisting you even more in an effort to get you out of the game!
Young pilots who finally make it to the “majors” (a term used for airlines who fly large commercial jets internationally) don’t look for some way out of flying the big jets, do they? They don’t say, “Wow, this is too much responsibility. I sure wish I wasn’t flying this large commercial airliner today.” No way. These new pilots are the brightest, quickest thinkers and strongest decision makers in the aviation industry. They relish the opportunity to take command. “Let me at the controls,” they say. “I’ve trained my entire life to get here and now I’m going to prove I’m the best!”
That’s how you should be when Satan challenges and persecutes you. Accept the challenge with joy, knowing you’re going to come out as an overcomer. After all, the Lord is sufficient to see you through. God never wonders if He’s going to have enough resources to get you over your problems this time. Together, you and He can defeat anything Satan or his cohorts can bring against you. Greater is He IN YOU…than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4).
So, when persecution comes, trust God and rejoice. You’ve made it to the majors!
Remember, with God nothing is impossible!
