Once you are born-again, I believe the most important spiritual attribute and aspect of God’s kingdom to learn… is FAITH. “For we walk by faith, not by sight” 2 Corinthians 5:7.

As a Christian, faith is needed for everything we are called to do. It must be used and strengthened throughout our Christian life. Think of faith like a spiritual muscle—the more you use it, the stronger it gets.

Faith is… the catalyst, the spark, the substance, that causes the invisible things of God’s kingdom to become visible (Hebrews 11:1). Everything we are called by God to implement in our life—love, forgiveness, obedience, etc., requires faith. That is why Scripture tells us, to be pleasing to God… demands faith. And that without faith, it is impossible to please Him.

“But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” Hebrews 11:6.

Jesus used Biblical faith for every miracle that occurred during His ministry. His disciples used faith to heal the sick and deliver the oppressed. God’s people throughout the ages, have used faith to overcome this world and to bring God’s kingdom to earth. Many of their inspiring testimonies are listed in Hebrews 11.

God values faith and says so. He points out faith in the lives of His saints as an example for all those who place their trust in Him. In addition, Jesus trained His disciples in faith even before the Holy Spirit was poured out.

If you need a miracle, then you need to believe what God says about your situation in His Word. And then agree with God, using your faith and action, in spite of the obstacles—and there will be resistance. Changing circumstance from Satan’s will to God’s will is a tug-o-war that must be fought.

Let’s talk about what faith is. Sadly, most churches don’t teach on this subject. As a result, few Christians understand what faith is and how it works. Yet, it is needed for every prayer request we ever pray. If… we actually want our prayer answered.

Here are three questions you may want to ask yourself, to help determine if you understand faith. See if you can find the answers in this message.

  1. Do you think that faith is the same thing as what you believe?
  2. Do you believe that you can have faith without taking action?
  3. Do you think that if you do not receive the answer to your prayer, but instead are bombarded by resistance and persecution, that you must be wrong and therefore you let go of your faith?

Let’s look at an example of the difference between “belief” and “faith.” Imagine that someone has been lost in the desert for several days and is dying of thirst. Literally, they were dying due to the lack of water. And let’s say that miraculously they find a small pool of water.

This person may adamantly believe that drinking the water would save their life. But if they just look at the water, thank the Lord for the water, yet don’t drink the water, they will still die of dehydration. That is “belief” without “faith.” However, if they, in faith, crawl over to the water and cup their hands and drink the water, it saves their life. Belief and faith must work together.

“Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead” James 2:17.

First, we choose to believe God’s Word. Second, we take action in agreement with what we have chosen to believe is truth—that is faith. Then, we stay the course when circumstances try to convince us differently. UNTIL we receive. It is our faith that takes us through the fear and the resistance, to the victory. This is not God’s faith. It is our faith.

This world currently belongs to Satan. Therefore, the systems of this world originate from him. You may not like to believe that, but it is the truth. God’s will is found where God’s people of faith are found.

The following Scripture warns us that our faith will be tested. We are told that Satan comes to us immediately to steal the Word of God that is planted in our heart (Mark 4:15). Persecution (because of the Word) is guaranteed.

The question is, what will we do? Run back to the world when fear comes? Let go of our faith in God’s Word when circumstances turn against us? This battle is to be expected when we put our trust in God and His Word.

“Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise” Hebrews 10:35-36.

Verse 38 reminds us who we are, as children of God, and the importance of faith in our lives. “Now the just shall live by faith; but if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him” Hebrews 10:38.

God expects His children to trust Him… to trust His Word. God wants every person who professes faith through Jesus, to walk by faith in agreement with what He has told us is true. In the past, if you have let go too soon, or have not used your faith correctly, now is the time to learn to live and walk by faith. Now is the critical hour to trust in God with ALL your heart and walk in agreement with God and His Word by faith, enduring resistance until the victory comes.

“For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.” 1 John 5:4.
