Where do you stand when it comes to spiritual warfare? Do you see it as real and relevant—or something reserved for a select few? Maybe it sounds a little “out there,” or perhaps it’s just not something you’ve been taught to consider.

The truth is, in many churches today, the topic of spiritual warfare is often ignored or glossed over. It’s either seen as extreme or unnecessary for the average believer. The result? Most Christians live unaware of how the spiritual realm influences their everyday struggles… often becoming victims in the process.

Without solid biblical teaching, we tend to mislabel our battles—seeing them as physical, emotional, or circumstantial. So we look for purely natural remedies. We take a pill for anxiety. We go to therapy for emotional wounds. We turn to medicine to suppress symptoms. But rarely do we dig deep enough to identify the true root—the spiritual one.

This puts us at a turning point: Will we take God at His Word and believe what Jesus modeled for us? Or will we lean on modern, socially acceptable solutions and avoid the uncomfortable reality of spiritual warfare?

Let’s be honest. Most churchgoers don’t bat an eye at going to a doctor or therapist. But bring up casting out demons or rebuking the enemy, and suddenly you’re “too radical.”

Yet, for those who are truly born again, the Word of God is non-negotiable. It tells us that the visible world is shaped by what happens in the unseen, spiritual realm. If that’s hard to accept, it might be time to revisit what Scripture really says. Many are quick to believe in Heaven, but uneasy about the existence of hell—or the demons that serve Satan.

But here’s the hard truth: whether we believe it or not, there is a spiritual war going on. And the Bible makes it clear that Satan was already defeated by Jesus.

“Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.”Colossians 2:15

This victory doesn’t erase sin from the world, and it doesn’t stop demons from trying to influence us. But it does give us access to divine authority that allows us to overcome any sin—if we choose to use it.

“And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.’”Matthew 28:18

Jesus has always held authority over the enemy. But through His death and resurrection, He made it possible for us to walk in that same authority—not just by believing in His existence (even demons do that!)—but by fully surrendering to Him. When we repent and accept His sacrifice, we’re adopted into God’s family—and with that comes spiritual authority over the enemy.

Until we step into eternity, we’re still living in a fallen world under Satan’s temporary control. And we see the effects all around us—strained relationships, emotional instability, burnout, physical sickness, and all kinds of daily battles. We wrestle with anger, shame, unforgiveness, jealousy, insecurity, fear. And especially in today’s world, anxiety and confusion are at an all-time high.

But these aren’t just psychological issues or bad circumstances. These are symptoms of a deeper war—a war being waged in the spirit.

“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”John 10:10

What’s behind our greatest battles? A spiritual enemy whose mission is destruction.

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”Ephesians 6:12

That phrase “heavenly places” isn’t referring to Heaven itself—it points to the unseen spiritual atmosphere around us. It’s the battleground where satan and his demons operate. And they’ve been establishing strongholds for generations.

But there’s good news: the people satan fears most are those who know who they are in Christ. Real Christians—those who understand and apply the authority they’ve inherited. They are the only ones who can destroy satan’s works.

If you’re walking in that kind of spiritual identity, you’re a serious threat to the enemy. You’re one of God’s elite warriors.

So here’s the question: Are you engaging in spiritual warfare? Are you fighting back?

Jesus gave His followers power—not to survive, but to conquer.

“Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”Luke 10:19

If your life doesn’t reflect the abundant, overcoming life Jesus promised, the enemy may have established strongholds you haven’t torn down yet. But you can—through the spiritual weapons God has given you.

You were not made to live in defeat. You were made to conquer darkness and every evil work.
