Wisdom That Leads Us to Jesus
The Magi—often called the Wise Men—are an essential part of the Christmas story because they represent the fulfillment of ancient prophecy that the Messiah would be born not only for Israel, but for all nations. Their story reminds us that true wisdom does not come from this world—it comes from God, and it always leads us to Jesus.
Scripture tells us, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding” (Proverbs 9:10, NKJV).
These men followed a star that announced the birth of a King. Their journey required faith, courage, and obedience. They left comfort, position, and familiarity to pursue what God was revealing to them. When they finally arrived, they did not merely observe the child—they worshiped Him, offering gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh to the Son of God who had come to earth in human form.
Who Were the Wise Men?
According to the Gospel of Matthew, these men were not kings, but magi—learned men from the Persian Empire known for their study of the heavens and ancient writings. God gave them insight beyond human reasoning—wisdom that cut through distance, culture, and tradition and drew them to the Light of the world.
As Isaiah prophesied centuries earlier, “Nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising” (Isaiah 60:3, NKJV).
God still reveals Himself to those who sincerely seek Him. “And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13, NKJV).
The Reason for the Season
This truth is especially important to remember in this season. Christmas was never meant to be centered on presents, food, or decorations—though those can be enjoyed. The wisdom of God calls us to prioritize the reason for the season: Jesus.
Jesus was born into this world to save those who were lost. His coming marked the beginning of heaven’s rescue mission for all who would place their trust in Him. As Jesus Himself said, “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10, NKJV).
That rescue did not end at the manger. It will be fully realized when He comes again to literally gather and rescue all who belong to Him. “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also” (John 14:3, NKJV).
Now that is something worth celebrating—Jesus coming to earth. His rescue mission is being accomplished even today as we wait for His appearing.
Gifts That Revealed His Mission
The gifts the Wise Men brought were not random—they were prophetic.
- Gold acknowledged Jesus as King.
- Frankincense, used in worship, pointed to His role as our great High Priest.
- Myrrh foreshadowed His suffering and sacrificial death.
Together, these gifts revealed Jesus as King, Priest, and Savior. Scripture affirms this truth: “For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily” (Colossians 2:9, NKJV).
Wisdom That Still Calls Us Today
While King Herod was threatened and blinded by fear, the Wise Men were guided by heaven. Warned by God in a dream, they obeyed God rather than man and returned home by another way. This contrast reminds us that worldly wisdom seeks control, but God’s wisdom leads to life and peace.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths” (Proverbs 3:5–6, NKJV).
This is the wisdom God still gives His people today—wisdom that keeps our eyes fixed on Jesus and His leadership rather than the distractions and false wisdom of this world. “Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth” (Colossians 3:2, NKJV).
As we approach Christmas, may we, like the Wise Men, seek the Lord with sincere hearts, follow His leading, and offer Him our very best. We praise the Lord, dear friends and partners, that you are choosing God’s wisdom in your lives. Thank you for your support, and for helping shine His light to the nations.
“For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God” (1 Corinthians 3:19, NKJV).

This is another great message of Godly wisdom. There is too much here to comment on and my comments could not add much to what Dale has shared. But I will add one thing (or two). In my recent novel My Freshman Year: First Book a friend Carol has a dream in which an owl looks at her and says “Hoo hoo hoo aar yoo, and then repeats it. And then the owl blinks its eyes and flies off into a nearby tree. Unlike other dreams, this one is crystal clear and she can still remember even single thing in the dream. She knows the owl is trying to tell her something but has no idea what it is. Because her dream included things I (t he “me” in the story) had seen on a midnight run passed a meadow, I understood God was giving me the interpretation. The chaplain invited Carol and me to share the dream and its interpretation to the whole student body. It emphasizes Dale’s point that wisdom comes from God, not the world and not ourselves. Here is my Interpretation:
“Dear friends, this is what the Lord has shown me about this dream. Perhaps he will tell you more or something different, but what I am about to tell you is what the owl and the dream clearly mean to my spirit. First the owl itself. Owls are known to be wise, whether they really are or not. So, the first message here is that what the owl has to say is wisdom. Anyone who hears what the owl says needs to recognize it is wisdom from God Himself and take it to heart in a personal way. Secondly, the owl’s voice as a “hoot” is meant to make you think of the English word “who.” The owl repeats the word three times because it is directing you to look into yourself and see who you really are and see if what you see aligns with what God has for you or are you a fraud, living for your own interests rather than God’s and missing the real you.
“The owl is calling you back to what the Bible tells us about YOU. God created you specially. There is no one exactly like you and God made you the way you are for a special purpose. If you align your life with the plan God had when He made you, you will have a marvelous life that will bring you joy, satisfaction, and fulfillment. If you depart from His plan and form your own idea of who you are and what you want from this life, you will miss out on the best that this life will offer you and maybe even all of eternity if you never return to Him. Nobody is a nobody! Everybody is a somebody! And that means you, too. The owl is just saying for you to get in touch with the real you, the ‘somebody’ God created you to be. And the owl’s message is not just for Carol. He gave it to Carol at this time for her to share with you because God wants all of you to be the ‘somebody’ He created you to be. He loves you more than you can imagine and wants to bless you with the good life He has created you to have. Don’t disappoint Him and think you are in control to decide what is best for you. That will inevitably lead to self-gratification and disappointment.
“Thank you for your attention. I have enjoyed sharing these thoughts with you. I am trying to learn and become the ‘who I am.’”
The book uis available from Amazon if you are more curious, but remember it is fiction. None of what i sin the story really happened, but it doesn’t give real wisdom from God as this example with the owl. Dale has shared more than this with and a lot of important Scripture references. I encourage you to reread this article and read the Scriptures and their context for yourself. You will gain wisdom from God for yourself and maybe become more the person God created you to be.
I might also mention I am thinking of another novel, Life in the 2030s..This is about my imagined life in the End Times. In it Jesus comes back around Christmas 2035. If certain things Scripture tells about happen soon, that timeframe is consistent with what the Bible tells us will happen before Jesus returns. If he doesn’t return then, no matter. We still need to get ready in preparation for those times. We will need much wisdom from God to survive those times whenever they happen. I call your attention also to Dale’s message about avoiding deception. Satan is the great deceiver and the Bible tells us many will be led astray at that time. Don’t you be one of them. Get wisdom from God that will enable you to recognize deception and flee from it..
oops! it DOES give real wisdom from God
