Spiritual authority begins with surrender.

That statement is so important that it bears repeating:

Spiritual authority begins with surrender.

Many people want authority over circumstances, authority over temptation, and authority over the attacks of the enemy. Yet true spiritual authority does not begin with resisting the devil—it begins with submitting to God.

James 4:7 gives us God’s order:

“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

Notice the sequence. Submission comes first. Resistance comes second. When we willingly place ourselves under God’s authority, He gives us the strength and authority to stand against the enemy.

Faith was never meant to be passive.

The Apostle Paul wrote:

“Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called.” (1 Timothy 6:12)

Faith is a fight worth fighting. Not against people, but against fear, doubt, discouragement, unbelief, and the many distractions that try to pull us away from God’s promises.

God has also given us the power of choice. Consider His words in Deuteronomy 30:19:

“I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life.”

Every day we make choices. We choose whether we will trust God’s promises or the reports of the world. We choose whether we will walk in obedience or follow our own understanding.

Choosing faith and obedience brings life—not only to us, but often to future generations.

If you have followed Jesus for any length of time, you have probably sensed an inner prompting from the Holy Spirit. Sometimes His leading seems inconvenient. Sometimes it appears irrational. Sometimes it challenges our comfort zone.

At those moments, fear and logic often begin arguing against what we sense God is saying.

Yet throughout Scripture we find that God’s leading frequently requires us to trust Him before we understand Him.

One important truth must never be forgotten:

God’s rhema word—His spoken guidance to your heart—will always agree with His logos Word—the written Scriptures.

God never contradicts Himself.

When He speaks, His voice will always align with His written Word.

Another lesson we have discussed often is that faith and patience belong together. I sometimes call them “the power twins.”

  • Faith believes God’s promise.
  • Patience refuses to let go of it.

Many believers want immediate results, but God repeatedly rewards those who persevere. Faith may begin the journey, but patience often carries us to the finish line.

Whatever challenge you are facing today, continue trusting God’s promises—speak them out loud and act according to what you believe in your heart.

Stay surrendered to Him. Stand firm against fear. Refuse to quit.

The God who called you is faithful, and He will not fail you—if you do not fail to obey His word.
