God’s has done everything He can to fully weaponize you as a believer. He has given you the keys of the kingdom, therefore, you can put a stop to the enemy’s stealing, killing and destroying. He has equipped His people with the weapons of our warfare which He provided for those willing to fight to overcome (Matthew 16:19; Ephesians 6:10-18).
However, as with any battle, victory only comes when you’ve got the correct weapons and proper strategies in place. You’ll also need the confidence it takes to use them. Therefore, when you’re in a fight against sickness or disease, it’s just as important to build up your spiritual confidence as it is your natural immunities.
Today I’d like to remind you of some principles that will help build confidence in your heart. These are designed to help you dig in and stand your ground. Use the confidence from God’s promises to push you over the top anytime you have to face off against the enemy when it comes to your health or that of someone else’s healing.
Here’s what is true: Healing IS God’s will. Jesus paid for your healing in full already! If you aren’t confident in those truths, plant God’s Word regarding healing in your heart until you are. You cannot have faith (a firm, strong confidence and belief) that God’s will is to heal you, if God’s Word in your heart is not stronger than then this fallen world’s circumstances and messages.
Jesus Is Our Undefeated Example
“When all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also was baptized; and while He prayed, the heaven was opened. 22 And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.” –(Luke 3:21-22). Then Jesus began His ministry.
If you could do a quick read of the gospel books of the Bible written by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, the one major theme that would likely stand out in the ministry of Jesus is the fact that He was a Healer—because healing people was a common activity that Jesus spent a lot of time doing. Look at these examples:
“People brought to him all who were ill…and he healed them.” –(Matthew 4:24)
“With a word…[he] healed all the sick.” –(Matthew 8:16)
“A large crowd followed him, and he healed all who were ill.” –(Matthew 12:15)
“Wherever he went…. all who touched [his cloak] were healed.” –(Mark 6:56)
“People brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and…he healed them.” –(Luke 4:40)
“News about him spread…so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses.” –(Luke 5:15)
Jesus was known for healing. Healing was a huge part of His ministry more than 2,000 years ago, and it’s a huge part of His ministry today. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. Healing will never cease to be part of the ministry of Jesus.
Many pastors have thought—and taught—that Jesus focused so much on healing because He needed to prove His divinity. Well, I don’t believe this could be true. Jesus didn’t openly discussed His being God in the flesh. He only spoke and ministered to people from His identity as the Son of Man (one of us), which is how He typically referred to Himself. In fact, take a closer look at the Gospels, and you’ll find Jesus never took credit for the supernatural signs and wonders performed during His ministry. God did the miracles and healing through Jesus.
Not long after Jesus was baptized (Luke 3), He arrived at His hometown and announced: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, for He has anointed Me to bring Good News…” (Luke 4:18-19).
From that moment on Jesus attributed all signs, wonders and miracles to His Father—“My Father who lives in me does His work through Me,” (John 14:10).
Jesus Himself actually didn’t do the healing; the Holy Spirit working through Him did. It wasn’t Jesus’ ministry. It was the Holy Spirit’s ministry, which was a critical distinction because of what was about to happen. An important handoff was about to take place, one that would impact our lives 2,000 years later. It was a handoff that would leave no doubt in our minds about “healing”—and our role in it.
Healing Worked for the TWELVE
“And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease. And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ 8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.’” –(Matthew 10:1, 7-8).
As our Undefeated example as Healer, Jesus wasted no time in demonstrating to His disciples God’s love and compassion through the ministry of healing. Then He released them to go and do the same—“freely!”
Empowered with authority, the twelve went out. Armed with a simple message and a lot of power. They went as weaponized disciples of salvation and healing! According to Luke’s account, God’s plan went as expected…
“So they departed and went through the towns, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere” (Luke 9:6 NKJV).
Before there had only been one person through whom God was able to “do His works” (Jesus), now there were TWELVE! More importantly, however, God had established a precedence, a pattern, a new way of building and advancing His kingdom. We find the blueprint to it laid out in Matthew 9:35, just before Jesus deployed His disciples:
“Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness.” (NKJV)
Look at how Jesus conducted Himself… teaching, proclaiming (preaching), and healing. These three activities Jesus ‘majored’ in. Teaching, preaching and healing.
God sent Jesus into the world to restore His relationship with mankind—and to destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8). And one of God’s primary strategies to bring Satan’s works to an end was healing…
“God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him” (Acts 10:38, NKJV).
With God’s strategy in place and an easy-to-follow and well-tested template, it was time for Jesus to execute the plan with His TWELVE disciples. And it worked! But that was only the beginning. Because just before Jesus sent His soon-to-be apostles, He charged them with the following directive:
“Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” (Matthew 9:37-38 NKJV).
Don’t forget, with God nothing is impossible!
