Saturday is another “Heaven Project” day. Dale and several other people are out on the street at a busy intersection in our city, holding big signs that say, “Jesus is the Way to Heaven,” and other similar proclamations.
.
Thousands of people drive by and are confronted with the need to make a decision—about Jesus and eternity. Many who have already made that choice, honk and wave or give thumbs up. It’s wonderful to see so many aligning with the message that Jesus is the way to heaven.
.
But there are those on the opposing side as well. And the proclamation of Jesus requires a response–good or bad. Jesus is the dividing line.
.
The last time I was holding a sign and waving at many smiling well-wishers, a man and woman drove up and glaringly yelled, “Hail Satan!” Others cursed at us. It reveals again, that we are in a war. When we take a stand for Jesus, Satan pushes back.
.

Every person on the planet is currently in the granddaddy of all battles. A battle that determines where you, me and every person, will spend eternity. We’re in the biggest war of all time… and we better know how to fight!

I wondered if those who hailed Satan, or cursed, had put a curse on us… for proclaiming the gospel message? Demons are real. Witches and warlocks are real, and have knowledge of how to use Satan’s power. In that “small skirmish,” on the street corner, I took a few minutes to pray and break every curse sent against us, in the name and authority of Jesus. The battle is real, and if we don’t fight back to defeat the enemy in the little attacks, those small assaults lay groundwork for big, ugly, deadly attacks.

The Bible tells us, “…That enemy of yours, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion [fiercely hungry], seeking someone to devour.” We’ve all heard that Scripture, and recognize the seriousness of it. Or do we?

Satan wants to devour you. Destroy your loved ones, or anyone who is not prepared for battle. Jesus called him “The thief, who comes to steal, kill and destroy.” (John 10:10) This verse tells us what to do about living in a world where our enemy roams freely, searching… for weakness, vulnerability, sin, doubt, fear, or openness to his deception.

Jesus alerts His followers. “Be sober [well balanced and self-disciplined], be alert and cautious at all times. That enemy of yours, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion [fiercely hungry], seeking someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8 AMP).

If you were walking through the African desert, where lions roam freely, would you be alert, watching for the danger? Would you carry a weapon and be prepared to use it? You’re the visitor—not a native of that dangerous land. You are potential prey for the lion to feed upon.

Jesus chose that example to teach His followers, because it best represents our situation. We are currently living in Satan’s kingdom, where he rules and is looking for those he can devour. And he HATES God’s people!

As I observe Christians in our current day, I do not see much vigilance when it comes to being alert to recognize Satan and his tactics. I don’t see enough resistance going on. Satan is attacking, that’s for sure. And most, who call themselves Christian, walk around with a bunch of arrows stuck in them. “…above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one” Ephesians 6:16.

Too many don’t know how to remove the arrows, or how to keep them from penetrating in the first place, yet the Lord instructed us. The church isn’t paying attention. Sadly, it’s full of people who are covered in arrows from the enemy, bleeding and hurting. Yet most leaders are not teaching the people spiritual warfare, or protecting the flock. And if those arrows stay put, they fester into all types of things—like sickness, depression, feelings of rejection, fear, low self-esteem, and so much more. These arrows open pathways for the enemy to steal, kill and destroy. Don’t forget, we must prepare for battle and we must be willing to fight!

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand” Ephesians 6:10-13.

What I’m seeing in the church, reminds me of a bull fight, where the enemy of the bull waves a red flag, distracting the bull to look at something that doesn’t matter, while the matador sticks swords or knifes into his back until he is too weak to fight, and is eventually killed.

As believers, we have been given directions on how to live. And how to win our battles. Not so that we can achieve great things in the world or impress those around us. But so that we can “endure to the end—victorious.”

However, that means we must follow the Lord’s directions if we want overcoming victory. He has graciously revealed the battle plans. And He has provided superior weapons with which to defeat our enemy. But we must learn how to use them. I often wonder it Christians even know we are at war. They may say they do, but their actions don’t look like they believe it.

In today’s culture, people love knowledge. Studying a new Scripture or hearing new biblical examples from preachers and teachers, often brings fresh fire. It stirs hearts and helps us feel recharged. But, a payment becomes due with every new truth or piece of fresh revelation. And this creates a bottleneck for Christians. Truth holds us accountable.

“Knowledge is inseparable from obedience or disobedience.”

Think about that for a few moments. Truth is something we are told to seek and to love. But when we discover a new truth, it requires that we make a choice, and ask ourselves questions: Do I live in agreement with that truth already? Have I implemented that truth in my life? If not, what should I do to come into agreement with that truth?

I know that in my life, a fresh revelation usually corrects a false belief. False beliefs are everywhere in Satan’s world and stick to us like dust sticks to our shoes as we walk on a dirt trail. It’s only through the filter of God’s Word that false beliefs are strained out.

When we accept truth into our life, it may require repentance for past incorrect beliefs or behavior. It definitely requires us to live a life that reflects our agreement with what we’ve learned.

Consider 2 Corinthians 10:5-6. “We are destroying sophisticated arguments and every exalted and proud thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought and purpose captive to the obedience of Christ, being ready to punish every act of disobedience, when your own obedience is complete.”

This Scripture reveals an important aspect of the believer’s lifestyle. The above passage is a plumb line that requires us to judge every thought and motivation that’s introduced into our life. If you watch the news, or listen to a sermon, you must evaluate what you heard against the Spirit and Word of God. In like manner, if you receive a medical diagnosis, you must evaluate it spiritually against truth, and bring it into submission. We must pull down and discard anything that does not exalt Christ or His Word. Every hour of every day, we are choosing Who we serve.

God has given us instruction because He knows our enemy. He knows what opens the door to demons, He knows how we can overcome and how we become vulnerable. He provides direction, correction and guidance out of His immense love for us. He understands what we cannot understand, and offers us protection within the boundaries He gives us.

This is where trust comes in. Trust in God, that His ways are the best ways for us to live. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths” Proverbs 3:5-6.

Let’s ask the Lord to teach us truth. And how to fight the battles His way, with His weapons… and please read His Word! Without it we are blind.

Reminding you again, with God nothing is impossible.

HEAVEN PROJECT: Every person is precious to God and that also means YOU. Let’s join together to reach more. Please prayerfully give today to help us reach more souls for God’s kingdom. Thank you!

Standing on the corners of our city, we remind people that there is only ONE way to heaven–Jesus. The honks and waves are numerous and encouraging.

Following the outreach on the streets of Coeur d’Alene, there is a time of “Questions and Answers” at a local Coffee Shop Bible Study to help new believers and Christians grow in a deeper understanding of who God is and how He works in our lives. God is blessing and multiplying..
