The Day of the Lord is an event important for all who live on the planet earth. Believers in Jesus need to comprehend it—at least in general terms. It will help all of us better understanding the timing of the Rapture and many other end time events. These two substantial occurrences—the Day of the Lord and the Rapture—are prophetically linked. From my studies, scripture connects them as back-to-back occurrences.
Currently I’m working on a new book regarding the last days that will answer many questions people all over the world are asking regarding what to expect during the end times. One issue most people struggle with is identifying the difference between Satan’s wrath and God’s wrath.
Satan’s wrath begins at the midpoint of the final seven years when he is given 3 1/2 years of authority (Revelation 13:5-7). The Day of the Lord’s wrath, commences immediately following the rescue of His people at the Rapture. Once we understand the difference between these are two separate events that both occur during the final 3 ½ years—it becomes much easier to know how events will play out in the last days.
Timing
This incredible event occurs between the 6th and the 7th Seal. And you’ll be interested to know that the following verses of scripture inform us that The Day of the Lord occurs immediately following the rapture of the Saints. Revelation 6:12 through the entire chapter 7, give a fairly thorough description of these two all-important events that are overlapped and intertwined in their descriptions due to their close proximity to one another. Sound a bit confusing still? Keep reading:
The Trigger
The “sign” or signal, that these two events are about to take place, is described in Revelation 6:12-14. “I looked when He opened the sixth seal, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became like blood. And the stars of heaven fell to the earth, as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind. Then the sky receded as a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island was moved out of its place.”
Luke 21:25-28 describes the same events as Jesus did in Matthew 24. “And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.”
The Day of the Lord is a term used again and again throughout all of Scripture, both Old Testament and New, to describe God’s final wrath against the unrighteous at the end of this age. It is not a literal 24-hour period or a single day as we think of a ‘day’. Instead it is a specific period of time when God’s wrath is unleashed against the ungodly. This happens immediately after the “catching away” of the righteous—in other words, the Rapture.
Two kinds of Wrath?
Christians often refer to the promise that God’s people will be spared from God’s wrath. “For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him.” 1 Thessalonians 5:9-10. It is true that we will NOT experience God’s wrath, however, just prior to the Rapture, we will experience Satan’s wrath as he persecutes God’s people and the nation of Israel.
The Bible describes the Antichrist’s wrath as more terrible than anything before or after. If you are alive when these things occur, do not confuse God’s wrath with the wrath of Antichrist. The devil will endeavor to persecute followers of Jesus and the nation of Israel in an attempt to thwart God’s prophetic fulfillment. God does have divine protection for His faithful and a wonderful plan to rescue His own. “For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened.” Matthew 24:21-22.
The Day of the Lord is described in great detail by eight prophets in the Old Testament as well as mentioned by three New Testament writers, Luke, Paul and Peter. By understanding this event clearly, I believe it will help you have more peace and calm as we progress through the last of the last days.
Interestingly, the occurrences associated with Christ’s second coming (the Rapture) and the Day of the Lord are one and the same. As the signs in the earth and sky occur, we are to look up. Jesus will appear and rescue His Church. It will begin suddenly and unexpectedly as God intervenes to cut short the great tribulation of Satan. Immediately following our departure, the seventh seal is opened, and God’s wrath is poured out on the unbelieving world.
In summary, let’s look at one of the O.T. prophets that spoke about The Day of the Lord, Zephaniah. “The great day of the Lord is near; It is near and hastens quickly. The noise of the day of the Lord is bitter; There the mighty men shall cry out. That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of devastation and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness, a day of trumpet and alarm against the fortified cities and against the high towers. I will bring distress upon men, and they shall walk like blind men, because they have sinned against the Lord; Their blood shall be poured out like dust, And their flesh like refuse. Neither their silver nor their gold Shall be able to deliver them in the day of the Lord’s wrath; But the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of His jealousy, For He will make speedy riddance of all those who dwell in the land.” Zephaniah 1:14-18.
According to Scripture, there is NOT a time of peace following the Rapture, but an immediate punishment for the unrighteous. People have said, “Well, when the Rapture happens, I’ll know it’s time to turn to God and get saved.” The problem with that way of thinking is that they are choosing NOT to serve Christ now. But rationalizing that they will live the way they want to now and when they are convinced it’s the end, will accept Jesus.
What if there is no time to get saved after the Rapture? The movies and books portray a version of reality that says there will be time to get saved after Jesus’ second coming, but it does not agree with God’s Word. Is it again, another false doctrine planted in the church by Satan to keep souls from God’s kingdom during the time of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2)?
Consider Noah. Scripture tells us that the end of the age will be “as in the days of Noah.” Once the door was closed on the ark, the rain began to fall on the unrighteous. No one else was added to Noah’s boat once he was inside and the door was shut. Why would it be different when Jesus returns for the faithful?
Consider 2 Peter 2:9. “Then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment.”

A wonderful message that is desperately needed today. We fight against not only the evil forces at work in this world but also against false prophets within the church who have been deceived by Satan and their own lust for power and greed. I am honored to be a partner with you.
Thank you Brother Jacques, It is always a blessing to read your encouraging emails. May God bless and keep you!-LR Prayer Coordinator
i believe the rapture is pre tribulation, why would Jesus come and get His church all battered and bruised. why are the last 3half years called the time of Jacobs trouble. Jacob is Israel . The Saints will come back with Jesus at the second coming . That is armaggeddon. To defeat the devil. Our blessed hope is the pre trib rapture
I do believe people will get saved during the tribulation. There is scripture in Revelation about saints who come out of the tribulation, who are martyred because they refuse to take the mark and worship the antichrist. But why would you want to wait? TODAY is the day of salvation.
AMEN, Sister Lisa, May God meet all your needs in 2023! Our goal is to draw closer to Jesus! Blessings to you!-LR Prayer Coordinator
Hi, Dale, Because it’s human nature to automatically believe every word of the Bible is addressed to us, it’s very understandable that you believe we’ll be involved in the prophesied end time events in it! I know you realize that Israel was the focus of all of God’s plans. His desire was to give them a kingdom of their own and commune with them in it, but what happened when Jesus came to his own and his own knew him not? Every opportunity to repent and accept their Messiah was given to them with great miracles and prophecy and the pleading of the Jewish apostles and saints that believed Jesus was the Messiah. The end of Acts came and went without the leaders of the nation acknowledging who Jesus is; and then came the end of Paul’s life when he was executed in a Roman prison. Will the kingdom yet be offered or given to Israel at some future time? I believe the answer to that is a resounding “No!” Jesus had promised to return in glory within the lifetime of his followers as he did in Matthew 16:28, but he was a no-show! Why? Because the Jewish leaders of Israel did not want him to be their Messiah; that’s why! If they had, he would have returned in the first century! The apostles and then Paul and his workers had tirelessly trekked far and wide reaching Jews even in Asia with the truth that Jesus was the King they’d been waiting for. A type of God-fearing Gentile that the KJV calls, “Greeks,” were found by Paul in the synagogues because they were welcomed there by having blessed Israel in some way and so they were provided under Israel’s covenants of promise. Those Greeks that believed in Jesus were graffed into the olive tree in Romans 11 because they were the Gentiles God used to try to provoke the Jews to jealousy in an effort to convert them. This was prophesied in the Old Testament in several places. The Gentiles aligned with Israel’s purposes were prophesied as being welcome in the promised kingdom but in an inferior position to the citizens of Israel. (Isaiah 60, etc.) Those believing Greeks did not need to be circumcised but it was to them that Paul brought those ordinances back from the Jerusalem Council in Acts 15; so the Greeks did have rules they had to keep as a part of their terms of salvation, while the Jews still kept the Law. This was a time of God showing mercy to his wayward people and the Jews were prompted to do “works meet for repentance.” They had hurt and offended God so his mercy was required to put them back in good standing with him. No other Gentiles besides those certain God-fearing, Israel-provoking Greeks that were part of Israel’s program were recorded as being saved any time during Acts and it was not until after Acts 28, so because we are not those Greeks and we are not those Jews, all of the letters written during the Acts period were exclusively to and for those particular believers! It would be spiritual larceny to take things God had for other people and somehow try to make it ours! So where are WE then, you ask? It seems that after Israel lost any chance to ever get their kingdom sometime after Paul’s final offer in Acts 28:28-31, Paul and his Jewish co-workers, plus the Greeks that stayed the course, seemed to simply be placeholders as they ministered to the churches Paul had established all around Israel, but we never see Paul ever offering Israel’s kingdom again, or even mentioning Israel again except for one notable exception. There’s no more talk of a glorious second coming or the vanquishing of Israel’s enemies by that coming. Paul warns of “evil men and seducers” “deceiving and being deceived,” but he doesn’t call that the great tribulation and warn fathers to keep their virgin daughters or what husbands should do with an unbelieving wife, etc. He takes no more vows or does rituals such as shaving his head or attending a feast. There’s no more “Lord’s supper” mentioned or anyone being water baptized. It seems they are all just holding down the fort so to speak, waiting for their individual deaths to occur; but suddenly something new happens! Paul seems to have been asked for his direction on what to do with some former Goddess Diana-worshiping pagans that somehow heard about Jesus Christ and what he had accomplished at Calvary by his death, burial and resurrection in payment for all sin and making resurrection from the dead a facet of the eternal life faith in him gives! Paul not only wrote back that, sure, those former blood-swilling, marauding Gentiles – although they were “strangers from the covenants of promise” (unlike the Greeks) and “aliens from the commonwealth of Israel” (unlike the Greeks), “far off,” and having no hope of God in the world” (unlike those Greeks!), they could absolutely place their faith in the Son of God and receive eternal life by the sealing of the Holy Spirit who would stay with them until that glorious day of their redemption! (Eternal security, which the Jews and Greeks did not have in the Acts period because they were warned that they could be “cut off”! (Romans 11). All this but there was more! Instead of a salvation message that entailed law (for the Jews) and ordinances (for the Greeks) as well as feast observance for both, as well as sign gifts and miracles; these ruffians that trusted Christ were being offered a FREE GIFT just for believing! (Ephesians 2:8 & 9 KJV) with no strings attached, all sin forgiven and forgotten upfront, all this was part of a mystery that Christ had revealed to Paul – a mystery with a gospel message that had now become the S.O.P. for the rest of time until and up to the appearing of Jesus Christ in glory (Colossians 3:4, etc.) to establish a NEW kingdom which is his inheritance from his Father, “the kingdom of his dear Son.” It’s not real clear but I believe that all that belong to God by faith since Adam and Eve are already supernaturally translated into that kingdom because we are the fellow heirs of Christ. Paul speaks of the “one new man” in Ephesians 2:15 as being made of twain of the Jewish saints and Greeks (the household of the saints) combined with “ye faithful in Christ Jesus” of Ephesians 1, which are the former pagans that are now in Christ (that’s you and me and everyone that believes in Christ as their Saviour today!) because in God’s eyes there are no more Jews. They’re done; they had their last chance when the very Son of God came to them on bended knee, and they cruelly rebuffed him! If some want to call themselves Jews, it makes no never mind to God; he’s only interested in their response to the claims of the gospel of his Son! There’s nothing in the final epistles of Paul that even hint at Israel getting a kingdom or having their end time prophecy fulfilled. Everything has changed to a dispensation of Gentile grace that will continue until the appearing of Jesus Christ in glory and our appearing with him, along with the saints and Greeks that with us will be that “one new man” who will spend eternity with our Lord here in that new kingdom on the earth restored to its Eden-like glory (because why did God create it if he didn’t plan to live here with us?) and with the earth and the heavens reconciled, they will be brought closer together so that the elders and the angels may come and go between the two spheres freely and joyously and vice versa for us! Dale, the “rapture” theory was based on the vision of a perhaps demon-possessed girl in Scotland and the idea was snatched from that and used to sell books, hold revivals, and sign Bibles! 1 Thessalonians is about the second coming of Christ to his chosen people IF they accepted him! It’s a fairy tale that enchanted the evangelical world! I fell for it myself and had a novel published about the rapture, trib, second coming, called “Covenant With My Chosen” by Deborah L. Kuzenski; but my desire has always been to come to a knowledge of the truth, and I finally have! I recant my book, my blog, etc. There’s a YouTube channel called, “Are You Muddy” by brother Rick Aden, and he put those final pieces in place for me, although he is a “preterist” and I am not. God allowed the Romans to destroy Jerusalem and the temple; that isn’t a “secret second coming”! There will be a real kingdom and I will be there by grace through faith in Christ, and so will you, no matter what we think will happen, wrong or right! If you have any questions, objections, comments, I would so love to hear from you! Your obvious love for the Lord and the passion with which you desire to serve him really made an impact on me! You had me in tears, too! I sense that you have kept your heart soft and pliable and your mind open to learning God’s will for us! Thank you for reading this and may God richly bless your ministry!
