As we enter the beginnings of the Last Days, things that have been hidden for hundreds of years are being revealed to those who can discern truth. For nothing is secret that will not be revealed, nor anything hidden that will not be known and come to light.” Luke 8:17. Truth is being brought into the open more than ever before. Yet in order to understand what’s really taking place, we must be willing to expand our reality. We must be keen on learning and allow God to open our eyes to see. We must have an open heart that is flexible toward what the Lord is revealing in order to see the truth and not be deceived in the days ahead.

To control a population, fear and controlled perceptions are the primary tools a government uses. As believers, however, we cannot bow to fear and we must look past the manufactured perceptions to find the truth. Fear is belief in what we don’t want. And is what controls most of us. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7

Perceptions form our reality. And the world is full of them. Romans 12:2 tells us, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” The world’s manufactured and designed perceptions are planned and carried out by the enemy who spoon feeds anyone who will swallow it. For example, most people have the perception that political leaders are in control of world events. In reality, world governments are not controlled by the politicians of democracy. Are the stock markets really controlled by balance sheets and profits? Or is it controlled primarily by the perceptions handed out by those manipulating information? Are flu shots really about preventing people from getting the flu? Are vaccines really about the health of children? Is cancer really a disease that’s incurable? Is the medical system based primarily on a saving the life of the patient?

These questions, are quick examples of the crafting of perceptions that deceive and lead scores of good people astray. These deadly perceptions are examples of some of Satan’s finest work, spinning lies around a nugget of truth. Satan has been using puppet masters across the globe to spread these traps waiting for good people, albeit naive, to fall into. What did Jesus say about the god of this world… Satan? “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” John 10:10

This world is highly evil and amazingly complex. But with the Holy Spirit as our helper and guide we are able to see through the fog. John 16:13 tells us “… when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.” As believers in Jesus Christ, we have a divine purpose for living strong in these days. You are needed to be salt and light for a world that is showing signs of falling apart. But hold on… There are good things about to happen too. Even great things.

Perhaps today you find yourself discouraged, burdened, depressed or possibly even traumatized. Maybe your dreams have crumbled. Perhaps your marriage is a mess, or your career is in shambles. Possibly your ambitions have been crushed. If these disappointments or setbacks are prolonged, perhaps you find yourself becoming cynical. You may have already lost all hope.

Allow me to help by sharing a twist of perspective. An understanding of the reality of Heaven can change so much.

Years ago, when I was a young boy in Long Beach, California I heard a story from my grandparents. The story has been written about before because it is an excellent illustration for us all. It was the early 1950’s and an athletic Florence Chadwick walked confidently into the Pacific Ocean off Santa Catalina Island. She was an extraordinary swimmer and had already been the first woman to swim the English Channel–in both directions. If she could swim to the shoreline of mainland California from the island of Catalina, she would be setting a new record. Her upcoming swimming feat was the talk of our home town.

Unfortunately, the day chosen for the swim turned out to be foggy and cold, which made the boats that accompanied her difficult to see. But being young and strong she set out and swam for fifteen hours straight. Exhausted and unable to see the seashore she told her mother to help her out of the water. Her mother, in a support boat nearby, told Florence that she was getting very close to shore and could finish, which would set a new record. Florence was completely exhausted but continued swimming in the fog anyway. Finally, physically spent, she believed she had to stop. As it turned out, when she got into the boat she was less than a thousand yards from the shore she couldn’t see.

At a news conference the following day she is quoted as saying, “All I could see was the fog. If I could have seen the seashore, I would have succeeded.”

Is your life in a fog of trouble? Are you unable to see clearly because of worry, doubt and depression? Do health issues make you want to quit? Have you become so discouraged over problems at work—or over the lack of a job, financial pressure, strained or broken relationships, or the loss of a loved one—that quitting seems to be the only possible solution?

Sometimes we need to adjust our perspective. The world in which we live is in a fog of deception. Truth is very difficult to see. But keep in mind that this world is not your home. Heaven is your true home and your ultimate destination. For believers, the ultimate goal is to be with God in the place He has prepared for those who love Him. But until that time, we are to be His hands, His feet, His light in a dark and dismal world. 1 Corinthians 2:9 tells us, But as it is written: Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”

Picture the most beautiful, perfect place, full of color, music and light. Imagine feeling perfect love and complete unity with all who are there. In Heaven there is no sin, no deception and no sickness or sorrow. There is no betrayal, no pain and no guilt. Everything is out in the open, free and clear. Truth reigns. There is joy beyond measure in every part of heaven. You have never felt as free and “right” anywhere in your life more than you will in your heavenly home.

If you will take a moment and change your perspective–see through the fog–you can find comfort. Take time to imagine your eternal home in your mind’s eye and it will energize you. If you’re weary and don’t know how you can keep going, keep your gaze on the Lord and all that He has prepared for you. Only glance at your circumstances, then give them to God. I encourage you to fix your gaze on Jesus, the One Who loves you just as you are right this minute. The One Who has promised never to leave you or forsake you. The One you have hopefully given your life to. Let Him live His life through you.

Also keep your focus on God’s Word. His Word will give you vision, answers, encouragement and hope. No matter how tough life gets, if you can see the seashore and draw your strength from the Lord Jesus, you’ll make it. Heaven’s shore awaits you with glories beyond measure.
