Are you needing healing from God? During this life on earth we all live in physical bodies that begin to break down and often become damaged. How should we spiritually deal with our physical problem?

Sickness didn’t show up until the fall of man. Therefore, sickness and disease is a result of the fallen state of man and separation from God. Sickness and disease was never God’s plan.

The Bible also tells us that if God’s people will turn from their wicked ways, He will take sickness from their midst (Deuteronomy 7:15). Sickness is a result of a curse (Deuteronomy 28:59-61). Generational curses (Exodus 20:5, Jeremiah 32:18) are evident when diseases such as cancer, alcoholism, or other “hereditary” condition, run down a family tree.

Obviously, the fallen state of mankind had a lot to do with sickness. But the good news is that Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8) and redeem us from the curse of the law (Galatians 3:13). That’s great news! There is nothing left to bind us to the curse of sickness and disease! Jesus has shed His blood, that we might be healed, delivered, and set free! (Psalm 103:1-5).

Didn’t Abraham have to take action when he took Isaac to the mountains to offer him as a sacrifice? His belief, trust and action was counted toward him as righteousness. Didn’t Noah have to spend decades of his life building an ark in faith, with no rain in sight? Belief, trust and action carried him and his family to safety. To understand more about the components of faith, read Hebrews 11. It describes those who believed God, trusted Him (didn’t give up), and took action as an extension of their faith.

Because Dale and I teach a body, soul, spirit approach to healing, we sometimes are challenged on whether we promote getting well in one’s own strength or trusting in the Lord for His healing. To me, it seems clear–it’s a partnership. Let’s review:

Step 1: We first must know that it is God’s will to heal. When we look at the ministry of Jesus and the disciples in the book of Acts, it is clear that healing is for any who will have faith to receive. (Isaiah 53:5, Psalm 107:20, Matthew 8:16-17 and many more). This was true in the Old Testament (before Jesus came), when Jesus walked the earth, and after He departed. God doesn’t change… He’s the same yesterday, today and forever. He is a healing God that provides healing to any who will trust in Him for that benefit.

Step 2: It is one thing to KNOW God’s Word. It’s another thing entirely to DO God’s Word. Knowing His word is the starting point, for sure. However, living out God’s promises in your real life requires faith. But know this, when you apply your faith to a situation, it is only then that power is released to bring Heaven’s will to bear on this natural realm. It’s not your power, it’s His power. But since “faith without works is dead.” we must release our faith through action. (James 2:14-20). It’s a partnership.

This is where the “doing” part comes in. If we believe that “we are the healed,” because of what Jesus has provided, then in faith we take action based on that belief. One of the ways to release our faith is to DO things that we can control… in order to line up with God’s healing.

Personally, one of the ways I act on my faith is by bringing my natural body into agreement with what I am believing as much as possible. Not to take away from God’s power, but to get into closer agreement with His will through my actions. For example, if I was believing for healing from lung cancer, after smoking for 20 years, one of the ways I would release my faith is to quit smoking.

In both the natural and the spiritual realm there is “cause and effect.” If my actions have caused an effect, I would start by repenting of my negative actions. To repent is to change course. How could someone have faith for healing if they know they are actively taking actions in opposition to what they are believing for?

Most don’t know this, but I had three small strokes several years ago. It was entirely unexpected. When this occurred I was numb on my entire left side. I had to drag my left foot, I could touch the left side of my face and it was numb. Suddenly everything that I normally did was nearly impossible.

Immediately I got back into the word of God for my healing. I needed fresh faith. Once I re-established in my heart that, “I was already healed” through the stripes of Jesus, I began putting my faith into action. I continued attempting to do all the things I would do if my body was healed (if it was safe to do). I didn’t know if the manifestation would be immediate or take time. But I did know that “I was healed” and nothing was stronger than that truth.

Every task took many times longer to do and was riddled with difficulty and error, both physically and mentally. But I knew how important it was for me to release my faith continually through my actions and my mouth. I would speak to my body many times every day, reminding it strongly that “I was healed” and it needed to catch up. I knew the stripes of Jesus had more authority in my heart than the circumstances and symptoms I was dealing with. Over about 3 or 4 difficult months, the feeling came back and I was regained normal function again. I knew that my incredible results were a manifestation of God’s will to heal, my agreement with His will, and my faith being released through action.

Applying God’s Word with faith, is how we build our house upon the rock foundation. This is what the Bible calls being a “doer of the Word”. (Luke 6:46-49).

Look at what Jesus said: “So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God.  For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.” (Mark 11:22-24)

Let’s face it… you and I will always have doubt unless we are convinced… 1) we are in line with God’s will, 2) and not only His will, but His willingness to respond. This level of faith comes by knowing and hearing God’s Word on the subject.

Step 3: Expect to receive. EXPECT! If you are not expectant, then faith is not present. Go back to Step 1 and read God’s promises out loud until your heart is into agreement. Remember where faith comes from? (Hebrews 11:1, 2 Corinthians 5:7, Faith is not an emotion, though your emotions will eventually kick into agreement (they’re the caboose). It’s a “belief”… a knowing, without doubt, that what God says is true. You must choose to believe.

What I learned was not only to believe—but also to expect to receive. God always wants to heal–there are no exceptions. Throughout life, I’ve learned a LOT of things about faith, about healing, and about God and His Word. I’ve discovered that faith is a spiritual force. Patience (not letting go) is also a force. And when you combine faith with patience, you can move mountains.

So trust in God and believe His promises. AND FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT OF FAITH UNTIL YOU EXPERIENCE VICTORY! (1 Timothy 6:12). Never give up!

Bless you, dear partners and friends. You remain in our hearts and prayers. Remember also, with God nothing is impossible!
