What is the key to self-confidence? Let’s look at God’s Word to learn what is true about having confidence and what the benefits are when we do. Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God. And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.”  – 1 John 3:21-22

Bottomline… You can’t get away with disobeying God without it costing you. God knows and your heart knows. Being in disunity with God creates a lack of confidence and therefore a lack of faith. This disruption in spiritual confidence effects your prayers being answered.

Many people think they can disobey and still have God’s blessings in their life. They think that if no one finds out about their disobedience, then it’s not going to hurt anything. After all, God is merciful, right? He’s not going to hold it against them. We’re under grace. And if no one else knows…what’s the difference?

Other times we see people around us disobeying. We think, everyone’s doing this, so God isn’t going to hold me to a standard that hardly anyone else is keeping, right? Society says it’s okay to behave like this and I think the Bible’s just not in sync with the times we’re living in. This feels okay to me.

The problem with this way of thinking is that God doesn’t change. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. His word is eternal and will never pass away.

What people don’t realize is that their own heart will give them trouble if they disobey. Their own heart will start to condemn them. Everyone else may look on and think they’re doing wonderfully. They may be talking about Jesus regularly, but when they come before God in prayer, they’ll be filled with doubt and fear. Disobedience keeps their prayers from being answered due to broken fellowship with God.

This is only one of the reasons it’s important to live in obedience to the Lord Jesus. A life of obedience provides you a spiritual boldness that you don’t have otherwise. It will give you a boldness in prayer, a boldness in making decisions. It will give you a confidence toward God that those who are trying to get away with “secret” sin don’t have.

No one expects perfection. We all make mistakes. But when a person strives to do their best and chooses to walk in obedience, their heart will not condemn them.

For now, take the time to listen and be responsive to the Spirit of God. When He tells you to do something, then do it. If God isn’t talking to you these days, it is likely that He has already asked you to do something, correct something or handle something, and you haven’t obeyed. He won’t simply “move on” to something else. It is possible He’s waiting for you to obey what He has already asked before He communicates something new.

As you respond in obedience, confidence will grow deep within you. It won’t be something you have to ‘fake it to make it’. It will just be there! Instead of being consumed by doubts that God isn’t going to answer your prayers, you’ll find yourself filled with faith that He will answer. You’ll even get to the point that you know He already has answered. You’ll begin to trust God in new ways and get into a flow with Him. You’ll get to the place the Bible calls “resting in the Lord.”

Be mindful of this truth. Even though the eternal price for your sins has been paid by the blood of Jesus, a life of disobedience will still cost you dearly. It can cost you boldness in Jesus that is rightfully yours. It will rob you of faith and allow you to be shaken with fear. It will keep you waiting for your prayers to be answered. That is a high price to pay.

So, don’t let the condemnation of your heart cut your confidence short. Do the things that are pleasing in God’s sight. Start fresh today. Walk tall in the kingdom of God by obeying the Holy Spirit. Repent of any sin or disobedience. Then you can walk forward in faith, knowing that you and God are in unity and fellowship. When sin does not block your fellowship with the Lord, you can have confidence that God hears your prayers of faith and will answer them.

“Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him” 1 John 5:14-15.

What Others are Saying:
“Paul and Dale Black and not like other pastors; they tell it like it is and do not soften the message like most pastors do.” Bru
“Wow!! This came at the perfect time, just what I needed. Christine
“Dale, thank you so much for your teaching. Thirty years ago I set aside the ingrained pre-trib teaching after searching scripture for the truth. What I found aliegns nearly perfectly with your end-times timeline. I’m now convinced most Christians are so deluded in thinking we will be removed beforehand that when it becomes obvious the Great Tribulation is upon us, they will fall away.” David
“Excellent advice on Bible study time. This structure is so much needed in the life of believers now a days. I believe many will benefit from it. God bless you brother Dale.” Sophie
