“Unless the Lord of hosts had left to us a very small remnant, we would have become like Sodom, we would have been made like Gomorrah.” Isaiah 1:9
God cherishes the few who trust in Him and He shows Himself strong in their behalf. Although the corrupt are many, it only takes a few righteous people to cause God’s heart to be moved to intervene in their behalf.
In fact, throughout the Bible we see God often use a remnant of His people to defeat the enemy. Think of Gideon. When this occurs there is no doubt that God was the reason for the victory and He receives all the glory.
Today, in the U.S., following the one of the most important elections for our country’s future, many observe widespread evil. However, there is also a remnant of God who are faithfully obeying God’s command. We need God’s help once again. “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14.
God graciously gave us a template to follow in order to have His deliverance. God did not make a “suggestion” on how to receive His help. He gave us a clear recipe of four ingredients that are required if we want to experience His healing in our land.
- Humble ourselves. No self-pride, no self-assurance outside of God. We will not see victory without God’s help and intervention.
- Pray. Prayer doesn’t change God, it changes things. God never changes. If we pray in agreement with Him and His will, He answers.
- Seek God’s face. What does it mean to seek God’s face? It means that we desire an audience with the King and need His full attention on our request. We must enter His presence through praise and worship and then stay there. We remain humble, requesting His intervention to heal our land.
- Turn from evil. As we repent of sin and any compromise in our lifestyle, we enter God’s presence. He shines light and conviction on those things in our life we must address. Then individually and corporately, we repent and change direction.
Notice in the following verses of Nehemiah 1:4-7 how effectively Nehemiah followed these four requirements.
“…I sat down and wept, and mourned for many days; I was fasting and praying before the God of heaven. And I said: ‘I pray, Lord God of heaven, O great and awesome God, You who keep Your covenant and mercy with those who love You and observe Your commandments, please let Your ear be attentive and Your eyes open, that You may hear the prayer of Your servant which I pray before You now, day and night, for the children of Israel Your servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel which we have sinned against You. Both my father’s house and I have sinned. We have acted very corruptly against You, and have not kept the commandments, the statutes, nor the ordinances which You commanded Your servant Moses.”
No nation is so far gone that God can’t change its future. Scripture proves this truth again and again. But to regain ground the enemy has stolen, we need God’s power and strength.
Like Nehemiah, once he followed God’s method, he heard from the Lord. Then he took the actions God instructed him. It was still a fight, but one Nehemiah could, and would win, because God was fighting for him.
As God’s people, victory is ALWAYS available to us. But we must win it God’s way.
Notice, in 2 Chronicles 7:14 God didn’t only say to pray, which is where many Christians stop. He said, if His people would do four things then He would do three things to bring victory. If My people will 1. humble themselves, and; 2. pray, 3: seek His face, and 4. turn from their wicked ways. Then God said He would 1. hear from Heaven, 2. forgive their sin and 3. heal their land.
God Himself will do the healing in this land. Our job is to give God the four things listed above.
Let’s remember Paul’s words to the Philippians, “Don’t worry about anything. Instead, pray about everything….” And remember, with God nothing is impossible!
