Within hours of posting this eNewsletter, a very important date arrives which is extremely significant to those in God’s family.  It is the Feast of Trumpets. Why is this significant? It was the feast given to God’s people to represent Christ’s return to “catch away” or “rescue” His elect.

There is not time in this newsletter to cover the history or significance of this event fully, but let’s look at some highlights. In the past God has used the Feasts, which means “appointed times,” as a way of commemorating important events in the life of Israel. They are also used to remind the Church of what is in store for our future.

There are a total of seven “Feasts of the Lord” (Leviticus 23). These seven are broken into Spring and Fall Feasts. The four Spring Feasts have already experienced their prophetic fulfillment. The three Fall Feasts are yet to be fulfilled. They include: 1. The rapture of the righteous and the judgement of the wicked (Trumpets—Rosh Hashanah), 2. The future salvation of the nation of Israel (Yom Kippur—Day of Atonement), 3. The ultimate establishment of the Messianic kingdom on earth (Tabernacles—Sukkot).

Let me give you an example of how important these Feasts are and how they not only commemorate an event but also prophesy a future event. The first of these Feasts is the Passover. It represented the Angel of Death passing over those in Egypt (captivity) who had lamb’s blood on their doorpost. If the blood was there, the Angel of Death passed over that home and the first-born was spared. If the there was no lamb’s blood, the angel took the life of the first born. This was one of the plagues of Egypt.

When Jesus was crucified at the time of the Passover it was not a coincidence. It was significant in representing the Lamb’s blood being shed for the salvation of God’s people. God is precise. He fulfilled the Feast of Passover with the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. Both the historical event and the prophecy have been fulfilled.

As we turn our attention back to the Feast of Trumpets, we learn that the timing of this ancient Feast coincided with the beginning of Israel’s civil New Year and was a time of blowing of the trumpets throughout Israel. Recorded in Ezra 3:1-6 we learn of an event that occurred during this Feast–the temple altar was rebuilt and the sacrifices reinstated following the Babylonia exile. Also, in Nehemiah 7:73-8:13, it was recorded that a sweeping revival took place in Israel on that day.

This Feast is unique in that it is the only Jewish holiday which does not have a specific date but occurs on the first day of the month, at the New Moon—when the moon is dark and only a crescent. This year it will occur sometime during September 21st and 22nd.

Interestingly, the Feast of Trumpets is dependent upon the sighting of the New Moon. No one knows the day and hour of the holiday until the New Moon is sighted and confirmed. Only then can the date be determined based upon the Jewish tradition of the holiday beginning at the next sundown following the sighting. That is why there are two days designated and considered as a “single long day.”

Many scholars believe the rapture will occur on the Feast of Trumpets. This Feast represents the surprise “catching away” of the righteous and is a reminder to always be ready. In Matthew 24:36-37 Jesus tells His disciples, “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.”

In Memorial: This was a special week for us here at Eagle International Church. Our dear friend and a wonderful minister of the gospel, Mel Gerrard, a man of 89 years, was taken home to be with our Lord. Before he departed he was given the MAN OF THE CENTURY Award from this ministry. He was called the wisest man Paula and Dale have known. Why? Because he was a soul winner and ushered more new believers into the kingdom …one-on-one, personally and individually than any other minister we have known. We had the privilege of ministering with him side by side over many years time. His ministry is called Wayside Harvesters and we’d love you to check out what they do and how they do it. Praise the Good Lord for this precious evangelist, ministry founder, businessman and brother in the Lord–Mel Gerrard, our Man of the Century for sure! We will miss him, but He is now enjoying the fruits of his labor in Heaven! “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, And he who wins souls is wise.” Proverbs 11:30

You can do it, because with God nothing is impossible!

“Hi Dale-just wanted to touch base with you to say how much I appreciated your teaching on hearing God’s voice today. It really reinforces my own experience and walk with the Lord and it was encouraging to hear the principles spelled out again. My prayer for you and Paula is that you continue to run with endurance (emphasis on the word endurance) the race God has mapped out for you in this ministry. Be encouraged! HE will do it! God bless,!” Mike and Judy – Melbourne Australia
