This is the week we take time to celebrate Thanksgiving Day. Did you know there is spiritual power in your attitude? As an example, take the attitude of thankfulness. The Bible tells us in 1 Thessalonians 5:18, “In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” Why would it be so important to God that we are thankful “in all things?”

God knows that if we have placed our trust in Him and have an attitude of thankfulness, the enemy becomes boxed in… stifled in his attempts of destruction. Even when the enemy attacks and circumstances turn dark, we can still thank God for so many things–like our salvation, our eternal hope of Heaven, the many things Jesus has done in our lives and so much more. We simply have to stop looking at circumstances and instead focus on what really matters.

It’s not possible to be thankful… and feel sorry for yourself at the same time. In John 10:10, Jesus contrasts Himself with Satan–our enemy. “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

When we focus on the eternal and good gifts Jesus has brought into our life, our perspective shifts to the things that are eternal instead of temporal, and the enemy loses his strength against us. What can we do to increase our altitude? One great way is to change our attitude. How can we climb above the storm? That’s what this message is about. Attitude changes our altitude.

With all the negative news and circumstances being thrust upon us, it’s extremely easy to get cynical, even angry. Is it just us, or does it seem that the battle, which used to be hidden, is raging in plain sight and quickly gaining momentum? It’s tempting to give up. When the bad gets worse, it’s more important than ever to take some time… pause and reflect, on the Good Lord’s blessings in our lives. This is NOT just for our benefit, but for His, too. When one reads about the life of Moses and the children of Israel, this principle is amazingly apparent. Few things move God’s heart like our genuine gratitude focused toward Him for all He has done for us.

God is always the same. He responds wonderfully well to a thankful heart. Not only should we reflect on God’s goodness in our own lives, but we should tell our family and friends about all He has done also. But most importantly, tell God. Express to God your feelings and how much you treasure everything He has done — and is doing daily — for you. You may just be surprised by how much more peaceful and enjoyable your Thanksgiving will be!

Paula and I personally know several of those who escaped with only their lives from the fire called the “Camp Fire” in Paradise, CA. There are many reports of God’s provision and protection during this tragedy and many who are praising God for what He did during this highly horrific fire storm.

As the days ahead become more turbulent, we must gain strength from the Bible, which has a great deal to say about what is happening now and what we can expect in the near future. If you’d like to understand yourself better and your fellow human beings; if you’d like to understand your children or your parents; if you’d like to understand science, politics, history, journalism, psychology, movies or even rap music, you’ll want to know what the Bible says about the amazing origin of humanity and its present condition.

You’ll need to understand our “One hope.” The greatest story ever told begins, as you might expect, with Creation. God made man in His own image and all was good. But man became separated from God due to sin.

The good news is, Jesus Christ became a man and gave His life to be a bridge between God and man in order to restore that relationship. Jesus, the cornerstone, spanned the abyss created by the great separation sin has caused. Jesus, the Messiah, is our only bridge to salvation and eternal life with God. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6.
