Power in the Name of Jesus – Capt. Dale Black

Sometimes believers forget the powerful teachings of Jesus. For example, Jesus said, “And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” John 14:13. In addition, in the next verse He said, “If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.”

This scripture does not only refer to having faith in God and in the name of His Son, it is also describing you and me as His followers. From time to time, we need to remind ourselves of Who we belong to and who we are. Do you know who you are in Christ? The truth is that if you think you are someone less than who God says you are, you may forfeit many of the benefits that God made available to you through Jesus.

Here’s some more truth for those who have received Jesus as Savior. You are a child of God. You are a joint-heir with Jesus. In the verse above, Jesus was telling His disciples that they could use His name with authority and have great victory. As soon as you have a revelation of who you truly are, your days of being a victim… your days of weakness and defeat… will end. Satan knows this and tries very hard to keep you from utilizing what’s yours in Christ.

Literally, the moment you became born again, God made you more than a conqueror in Christ. You were recreated on the inside and instantly became a new creation, empowered with the ability to win in each situation or circumstance—not with your power but with His. Because the Spirit of God Himself dwells in you and His power works to perform His purposes.

Philippians 4:13 describes someone who has been born-again. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” In a similar scripture, Paul describes a Christian as God sees them. “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us…” Ephesians 3:20. That scripture has dramatically changed my life.

It doesn’t matter what you’ve done or how insignificant and ineffective you once were; God is the Master of making champions out of nobodies—like His disciples.

We can see another example of God transforming someone in the Old Testament. I’m talking about Moses. Moses didn’t see himself as God saw him—as the deliverer of God’s people. In fact, Moses angered the Lord when he asked Him to send someone else who could speak better. Moses’ rejection of seeing himself as God saw him created a problem. God obliged Moses by including Aaron in the leadership team, but this would prove to caused trouble later.

But it didn’t end this way. Over time, Moses began to see himself as God had made him to be, and finally took his place in God’s plan and excelled as a strong leader of God’s people.

Here is today’s challenge from Paula and me to you. Don’t let the enemy’s tactics hold you in bondage any longer. Use the name of Jesus in your daily life. His name has authority over every other name or circumstance. Praise Him for who He has created you to be. Choose to walk in your new life. Even right now you are more than able to do everything God has called you to do, because He has made you a conqueror and champion.

Believe you are who God says you are. Reject every feeling that is contrary to what God says about you. Do not let the enemy’s strategies keep you in bondage. Accept right now that God has made you a champion and an overcomer. The name of Jesus gives you overcoming authority. So have at it… and use His name. “Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” James 4:7. This is a powerful verse and we all quote it often. But don’t try to resist Satan without first submitting to God. It is His power in you that gives you the victory!
