The book of Proverbs gives us a wonderful principle for personal success. Basically it says that if you want God to honor and bless you in an area of your life, you’ll need to honor Him in that particular area first. For example look at this scripture found in Proverbs 3:9-10
“Honor the Lord with your possessions, And with the firstfruits of all your increase; So your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine.”
If you want God to bless you or your business or your ministry–financially, you’ll want to honor Him with your finances. As this verse puts it… with the first-fruits of all your increase. In other words, you are to be a tither to the Lord’s kingdom.
According to a reliable survey, less than 20% of the body of Christ give tithes regularly. But as Christians we really can’t afford not to tithe! By honoring God with our finances He’ll honor us with His blessings. I’m not saying to give to God in order to get. But what I am saying is, as believers we are commanded to give Him our tithes out of obedience. Contrary to what many preachers teach, we are not commanded to give SO THAT we can receive. The word says to give AND you will receive. Luke 6:38. Receiving is the byproduct… if is never to be the motive.
God is a good God. He loves His children. Every time He instructs His people to do something, He is guiding them to tap into kingdom principles so that we can experience His blessing.
“Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.” Luke 6:38
So give God what the Bible says is His in the first place. Give Him your tithes. Even if it looks like you can’t afford to, give where He tells you and watch Him open the windows of Heaven for you. God is faithful! If you’ll honor Him by giving Him what belongs to Him, He’ll help you with the rest. He even goes so far as to challenge us with a promised blessing.
“Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.” Malachi 3:10
Give joyfully and in faith… expecting. As you tithe, worship Him and be grateful for what He has already done in your life. You may be amazed what He will do.
