One of the most important aspects of living the life of a Christian is to understand the importance of the Holy Spirit. Understanding how the Holy Spirit helps you can make the difference between mediocrity and success. It can also mean the difference between life and death.

Who is the Holy Spirit? Why is the Holy Spirit important in your life? Possibly you’re a new Christian or maybe you’re new to the Spirit-filled life, and these are some of the questions that you’ve asked. It’s possible that your background involves religious upbringing that has avoided speaking much about the Holy Spirit. Maybe as a new Christian you’ve never even heard that the Holy Spirit exists or is relevant in this day. But I assure you, the Holy Spirit is critically important for you to live a successful Christian life. First, He is the One responsible for the transformation of salvation as we start our spiritual walk. Secondly, after the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus, God sent the Holy Spirit to earth to dwell in every believer to empower us with God’s power. You can look at John 14:15 -17. The job of the Holy Spirit is to:

Teach you
“When the Spirit of truth comes He will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on His own but will tell you what He has heard. He will tell you about the future. He will bring Me glory by telling you whatever He receives from Me. All that belongs to the Father is Mine: this is why I said, ‘The Spirit will tell you what ever He receives from Me.’” John 16:13 – 15.

The Holy Spirit teaches you about the things of God. He brings to mind and enlightens Scripture and brings deeper understanding of all spiritual things.

Help you
Even when you and I don’t know how to pray or how to handle situations, the Holy Spirit knows. He is the one who helps you beyond your personal capabilities.

“And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we may not know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us and through us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.” Romans 8:26

Reveal truth to you
The Holy Spirit protects you from being led astray from the teachings of Jesus.

“But you have received the Holy Spirit, and He lives within you, so you don’t need anyone to teach you about what is true. For the Spirit teaches you everything you need to know, and what He teaches is true – it is not a lie. So just as He taught you, remain in fellowship with Christ.” First John 2:27

Empower you
The Holy Spirit strengthens you and gives you the power to handle whatever situations come your way.

“I pray that from His glorious, unlimited resources He will empower you with inner strength through His Spirit.” Ephesians 3:16

Paula and I want to encourage you today.  Know that wherever you are, whatever you are dealing with, you are not left alone. The Holy Spirit is with you desiring to help you with God’s help. Begin thanking God for sending you the Holy Spirit. Invite the Holy Spirit to be active in your life. Thank Him for helping you through each day. Thank Him for teaching you and revealing truths to you. Thank Him for giving you power to overcome.

Whatever God has called you to do…you can do. With God nothing is impossible.
