He Is Risen – Dale Black

The resurrection of Jesus changes everything for the believer. It makes our belief system extremely unique to all other religions.  After Jesus was crucified, His body lay in the tomb for three days… dead and buried. Hundreds of eye witnesses observed His horrible death. Thanks be to God, Jesus didn’t stay dead…. He rose from the grave in resurrection power, conquering sin and death and providing freedom and victory to all mankind. To say the world would never be the same after this event is an understatement.

Let’s look at 7 facts about the Resurrection of Jesus, the Messiah, and possibly gain some new understanding. If Jesus hadn’t risen from the dead, 7 UNTHINKABLE things would be true in the world today.

1 – PREACHING WOULD BE POINTLESS and an exercise in futility. There would be no message worth proclaiming. 1 Corinthians 15:14 tells us, “And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty.”

2 – If Jesus never rose from the grave, then FAITH WOULD HAVE nothing on WHICH TO BASE ITSELF (1 Corinthians 15:14). Faith is no better than its object or its guarantee. And without faith, there is no power. Faith would simply be foolish and futile wishing. Our hope and faith in Jesus Christ would be of no value if He were still in the grave.

3 – The DISCIPLES WOULD BE DECEIVERS. In 1 Corinthians 15:15-16 “Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom He did not raise up—if in fact the dead do not rise. For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen.”

If Jesus had not risen, then the disciples would have been false witnesses and liars. But remember, the disciples believed fully in what they taught. They committed their lives to the gospel… enough to be tortured, persecuted, and die as martyrs for the message they preached.

A man may live for a lie; but few, if any, will die for a lie. Hypocrites and martyrs are not made up of the same things.

4 – SIN WOULD RULE and reign freely. Can you imagine living life under the control of sin and death? Again, in 1 Corinthians 15:17 it says, “And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins!”

We’re all sinners by birth. We’re descendants of Adam and Eve and therefore born with a sin nature—prone to sin… we are even subject to it. If Jesus was still in the grave, then we’d have no hope of forgiveness and would still be under the bondage that sin brings. This bondage of sin is more powerful than we could overcome in our own strength.

If sin were not defeated, it would be the worst of all problems for mankind. God cannot simply overlook sin. If He were to cease to judge sin, then He would cease to be holy. A price must be paid. Romans 6:23 makes this clear. “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

5 – DEATH WOULD HAVE DOMINION (1 Corinthians 15:18). “Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.” If Jesus was still in the grave, death would rule and we would have no hope beyond this physical life. There would be no eternal life… and no Heaven. What a horrible thought. We would be lost in this life, and we would lose eternal life in the next.

6 – Our FUTURE WOULD BE FEARFUL (1 Corinthians 15:19). “If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable.” Being a Christian in this lifetime only, if there is no future beyond this world, is a shallow and temporary hope. Someone once said, “If Jesus Christ is still in the grave, nothing really matters. But, if Jesus Christ came out of the grave, and rose victorious over sin and death… then nothing but that really matters.”

7 – THERE WOULD BE NO VICTORY OVER THIS WORLD. Without the victory and authority of Jesus Christ, we would all remain victims of this fallen world. In John 16:33 Jesus reminds us of what His death and resurrection would provide. “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

If Jesus was still dead, we would not have access to the benefits He paid for. It is only through His resurrection that His death was ratified and gave us access to the benefits He provides—like freedom from sin and the benefit of healing, and walking in His blessings of protection, just to name a few. (1 Peter 2:24)

The Resurrection of Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, is the greatest news this world will ever receive. Jesus is NOT still in the grave. He died, was buried and rose on the third day. These events fulfilled in great detail many, many prophecies that were written hundreds of years before He came.

Because Jesus was resurrected, if you believe in Him as God’s only Son and place your faith in Him as Savior and Lord, you also will be resurrected on the day Jesus returns for those who trust in Him.

Romans 8:11 tells us, “But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.”

Remember, with God nothing is impossible!
