God is a spirit and He communicates to us spirit to spirit. You and I keep our spirit nourished by reading or listening to God’s Word regularly. This way we can hear His voice and sense His promptings. We get close to God by spending time in prayer—talking to God like a friend. He is your friend Who cares for you and your loved ones with undying, unconditional love. The Holy Spirit is personal. His guidance is always available in everyday situations.

A very close friend shared a personal experience regarding the Holy Spirit. Late one night recently she was awakened and felt compelled to walk through the house and pray. Having already learned to trust those quiet, soft promptings from the Holy Spirit, she got out of bed and moved through the house. After a good time of prayer she got a drink of water in the kitchen before heading back toward the bedrooms where her family was sleeping soundly… or so she thought.

She felt prompted to stop at her teenage son’s room. It was dark and quiet. Not sensing the need to disturb him, she didn’t knock or open the door. Instead she spoke out loud the words that filled her heart… “I love you, Matthew. I love you, son.” Her words were met with silence and soon she headed off to bed without much more thought.

It was only months later that she learned the full impact of her actions and her words that night. Late that fateful night, in a state of despair, Matthew was sitting in his room with a loaded gun in his mouth preparing to take his life when he heard his mother say, “I love you, Matthew. I love you, son.” Those words and those prayers stopped his finger from pulling the trigger.

This is just another example of the Holy Spirit at work in the life of a woman and mother who belongs to God. God’s precious Spirit is actively at work 24/7 to help us through the difficulties we face in this life—even those we are not aware of.

Following the resurrection of Christ, Jesus told His followers that He would send the Holy Spirit. Obviously, this makes the Holy Spirit’s presence and involvement in the life of the believer a critical necessity.

We are fighting a spiritual battle as long as we live in this world. Jesus taught us about our enemy and described one of the differences between Satan and Himself when He said, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” John 10:10

The “they” are those who puts their trust in Jesus as Lord and Savior. When we take that step of faith to ask Jesus into our life, we are adopted into God’s family and share a personal relationship with Him through the person of the Holy Spirit. (If you’re not sure you are a child of God, or if you’re unsure that you are heaven bound, please visit the page “Book You Heaven Flight” on the HOME page to learn how you can be sure you are in this awesome family of God).

It is so true that it is worth repeating for emphasis. God is a spirit and He communicates to us spirit to spirit. So keep your spirit nourished by reading God’s Word regularly. Spend plenty of time in prayer—talk to God like a friend. He cares for you and your loved ones with undying, unconditional love.

God has given you the Holy Spirit as a Helper and Guide. John 14:26 says, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.”

Do you need more power in your life to deal with the trials that you’re currently facing? Jesus told His disciples that they would receive power from the Holy Spirit. The Bible describes how Peter, prior to being filled with the Holy Spirit, denied even knowing Jesus—three times. But after the Holy Spirit came and filled him in the Upper room—Peter then preached the gospel, led thousands to believe in Jesus, was a strong leader in the faith and willingly died a martyr’s death. What a difference the Holy Spirit made in Peter’s life!

It is the same for you and me today. The Holy Spirit brings power and needed attributes to our lives. God knows that we need His strength to live in this fallen world where the spirit of Antichrist is growing stronger by the day. This is exactly why God provided Himself—in spirit form—to guide us, teach us, minister to us, strengthen and empower us.

If you feel that you need more of the Holy Spirit in your life, invite Him in. Pray and ask God for the Holy Spirit. Luke 11:13 tells us, “If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”

Ask your Father for a fresh filling of the Holy Spirit today. Every day, ask again for a refilling for the day. When you pick up your Bible, ask the Holy Spirit to minister God’s Word to your heart and teach you more about God. The Holy Spirit is your source of strength. He is your power.
