Overcoming the weakness of the flesh has been the problem of the Body of Christ individually as well as collectively since the beginning of time. The desire to do one’s own will rather that God’s will hinders the workings of the Holy Spirit in our lives. But by walking in the spirit (do things according to God’s ways) we give God the opportunity to show Himself in the way that He desires.
As long as we are dominated by the flesh we are not really ready for great work. In fact, as we read in 2 Timothy 2:21 it says this. “Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the later (from dishonor), he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.”
In the midst of the chaos which is happening around us, God is calling the Body of Christ to separate themselves and to dedicate themselves to spiritual things. As the wonderful hymn says, “This world is not our home, we’re just-a-passing through.” We are called to put away the things of this natural world and what the Bible calls the things of the flesh. If you haven’t noticed, we’re marching faster and with more focus toward the last of the last days on earth. It is easy to become shocked by what you see or hear, but in the midst of it all we are to keep our eyes on our Lord.
Every generation has had its role to play in God’s ultimate plan as He shows His power through and in behalf of those who were dedicated to Him. The Word of God says, “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.” 2 Chronicles 16:9.
When God called Moses to lead the children of Israel out of Egypt, God did signs and wonders and miracles through Moses. Moses was faithful to obey God. He was committed to God and not to himself or his own interests.
Before the coming return of Jesus Christ, God will show Himself and reveal Himself to all flesh (Acts 2:17). But in order to do this, God needs a faithful people. He is rising up a people that will act according to the spirit, rather than in the flesh.
God taught Moses His ways so that he could cooperate with His Spirit. This is how he could help accomplish God’s plan for Israel. In our generation, God has taught us how to walk by faith in His Word and not by sight. The Word of God gives us the knowledge of how God operates. We learn from the Bible the “ways” of the Lord. Consequently, we’re able to sense and obey the promptings of the Holy Spirit. This is what is often called His “still small voice”. Great news here: as we obey these promptings and are faithful to Him, God will show Himself through us in the earth. This is certainly His desire for the Church in these last days. He wants to live through us on earth. We are to be a reflection of God here and now.
This may sound harsh, but I believe that if we have no control over our flesh, then God has no control over our flesh either. But don’t forget He gives us His strength to overcome anything. “For I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philipians 4:13.
You are a spirit being living in a physical body. As a believer in Jesus Christ you are born of God. As His child you have the life and nature of God and are filled with His Holy Spirit. It’s really true that you are the visible representation of the invisible God in this earth.
Here’s what you can do. Let the Spirit of God reveal Himself to you as you spend alone time with Him. Tell God that you want to yield your body to do His calling in your life. Tell God that you offer your body as a living sacrifice to God.
I believe if you’ll pray a prayer like above, God will show Himself strong in your life. He’ll give you more power and blessing in direct proportion to how you much you dedicate yourself and are faithful to Him. Try this prayer today. I think you’ll be glad you did.
Remember, with God nothing is impossible!
