For many life seems to be getting more complex and stressful. Having enough stamina to cope and an abundance of energy to overcome is vital. It makes for a more enjoyable life. And more fruitful.

Here are three simple ways to help YOU become healthier and gain more energy. And it’s quite easy. This is not a complete list…but following these easy steps can certainly help build your God-given immune system and help stop many sicknesses in their tracks. As you may know, my wife, Paula, used these 3 steps (and more), to get her life back 21 years ago from aggressive terminal cancer. She got well without chemo, radiation or further surgery. Here’s some fast facts to improve your health starting today.

Rest
Adequate rest is paramount for your success. The immune system repairs and recharges during the rest cycle. Our bodies are designed with a distinct natural cycle called the Circadian rhythm. This natural cycle includes light versus dark—day versus night. People that work all night and sort of sleep during the day are at risk in the long run. I personally really know what I’m talking about here, having worked much of my life at night and knowing so many wonderful and responsible commercial pilots who fly mostly at night. Keeping the body on this natural cycle is an important part of producing good hormones and less stress.

As you eliminate stimulants like sugar and caffeine, your sleep will improve. When Paula and I were going through our lifestyle changes, she no longer set an alarm clock. Instead she slept until she wanted to wake up. This was a big change. For years she had deprived her body of the rest she needed, so it was time for payback. She was finally getting enough rest, and at the proper time of day. I encourage you to do the same. Arrange your schedule the best you can so you get the proper sleep your body and soul require.

Oxygen
Oxygen is a critical component for healthy cells. If cells are oxygen deficient, they become vulnerable to cancer and other disease. You can increase your oxygen levels with exercise. If possible, take walks daily for as long as your health allows you to. If you can’t walk easily or safely, find another form of exercise that will do the same. Swimming? Aerobics?  At the very least add some deep breathing several times a day to increase oxygen in your lungs which then find their way into your bloodstream and your cells. Find something you enjoy. Personally I find that walking provides some of my best prayer time too.

Certain foods contain higher amounts of oxygen, and they should became part of your daily regimen (see Appendix B in “Life, Cancer and God”). Cancer starts at the cellular level; therefore, having healthy, oxygen-rich cells (red blood cells carry oxygen to your tissues) increases your immune system’s ability to destroy cancer-causing damaged cells.

For many of you this will be the first time in a long long time that you breathe properly. Take long slow deep breaths. Do this in the cleanest air available. And try to leave a window open at home when possible. The trapped air indoors can tend to become polluted with toxins if not recycled with clean air regularly.

You need a proper balance between negative and positive ions in the air that you breathe. Too many positive ions typically exist in places like office buildings, gymnasiums, and church buildings, and that air is quite unnatural. This is caused when heating and air-conditioning units remove many of the negatively charged ions in the air, causing fatigue, dizziness, and headaches. Studies have shown that an increase in negatively charged ions inhibits the growth of cancer tumors. So create a new lifestyle. And be sure it involves breathing good quality fresh air throughout the day.

Avoiding Stress
Avoiding stress is essential. Stress has many harmful effects on the body and damages your all-important immune system. Your main challenge might be in recognizing and avoiding the many sources of stress in your life. It comes in many forms and is often labeled an “invisible killer.” Stress can show itself either physically or emotionally, and both can cause physiological damage. Be on the lookout for what stresses you are dealing with… and then avoid it.

Some of the more common root causes of stress are lack of sleep or pressure at work. For many, other people are a source of much stress. Relationship issues are a big one so make sure you are forgiving and walking in love. Financial pressures can cause a lot of stress so live well within your means. Toxins from food or drink, toxins from the environment, drugs, dehydration, insufficient oxygen, and lack of nutrients coming into the body all can cause your body stress.

Stress creates an oxygen deficiency in the blood and a release of stress hormones into the bloodstream which are toxic. This isn’t good. Oxygen deficiency causes shallow breathing and constricted muscles and blood vessels. Lack of oxygen in the cells is known to be an underlying cause of cancer. Stress hormones can increase the growth rate of cancer and feed existing tumors, causing them to spread.

The human body fights off disease primarily with white blood cells. During times of stress, the body releases corticosteroid, a hormone that can lower the number of lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell) in the body. This lessens the body’s ability to fight off viruses or damaged and abnormal cells, such as cancer cells.

For many in a critical health condition, a key ingredient to having less stress, is to stop working. This is a hard pill to swallow for many but can be necessary. It was one of the keys in my wife being permanently cured of cancer. Giving up that source of income caused other stresses, but we all must make choices about which things are most important. Leaving your job, temporarily, could be one of the important decisions you’ll make if you are currently dealing with chronic disease in your body. Relieving much of your stress and adopting your new lifestyle could be a major force for your health. Keep in mind that material things don’t mean much when measured against life and death.

God’s Word is health and life for you.
Do remember that God wants you well and He has many promises to help you hold on to that truth. Here is a promise from the Lord just for you today (think of it like it is from God… just for you… today). Then meditate on these words because they ARE life and health to you.

“My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh. Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.” (Proverbs 4:20–23 NKJV)
