Caring and responsible doctors, told me, I’d never walk again. They also said I wouldn’t see more than light and dark out of my grossly cut right eye, or ever lift my left arm. And of course… I would never fly again. They had no suggestions regarding my partially erased memory.
What they did promise me was more surgery… for my back and face for starters. These were great doctors—back in a day where the preservation of life was the primary goal of medical professionals. They stated the facts—the obvious. But that didn’t mean they were stating God’s will—or mine.
D-Day:
But then came one particular, single day. I now call it D-Day. Sitting ALONE in my wheelchair— contemplating with God the huge obstacles I was facing—weighing the pros and cons of choices I was considering—weighing the Scriptures that promised that “with God, nothing is impossible.” On that one single day… I changed the way I was looking at my problems!
That particular day, I sensed God was leading me to choose to look at my adversity as the challenge of a lifetime. It wasn’t God’s best to settle for defeat… or to be a victim. With God’s help and leading, I would prove the wonderful doctors wrong. I was determined that with God I would walk again… I would fly again, and see out of my damaged eye… and use my arm. Everyone knew I should have died in the crash. So, with a grateful and humble heart, I set out to prove that God’s promises are true… or if they weren’t true, I’d be willing, if necessary, to die in the trying.
I prayed, “God, I want to believe the impossible.” I spoke to myself, “Dale, you are going to develop a NEW flight plan for a THRIVING life. You are going to find your greatest adventure ever!” On that day, alone with God in my wheelchair—my life CHANGED. I changed the way I believed. I changed the way I thought. I changed the way I spoke.
I saw no good reason to give up on my dreams. With a growing faith in the integrity of God’s Word, I changed course. I took charge.
I adjusted my attitude. The new attitude would increase my altitude.
I set course to fly above the storm of being the only survivor of an airplane crash.
As a result, God provided me with 12 Steps to Overcome Adversity. Any adversity… spirit, soul or body. (For cancer patients, see the “Winning Over Cancer Ministries” page). God’s Word is SO true. He is SO faithful. He is also no respecter of persons. What He will do for one, He will do for another… or for any who will believe.

Remember that to overcome, we need to both KNOW and then DO God’s Word. That means we apply His teachings, His instructions, into daily living.
You, dear friends and partners, remain in our hearts and prayers. It is true… With God nothing is impossible!
